Remove Icon-size Imgs from Image Library

    Win 10 21H2

Want to move image files smaller than ZZ x YY dimensions (e.g. 128 x 128 px) from any given container.

I can think of a few software which will allow me to recursively view image directories, but i'm thinking more of a script or software to do it for me.

My goal? To slideshow images without viewing "icon sized" or small images. I'd rather just move the small images, than configure a slideshow viewer to exclude imgs of smaller dimensions (a feature which I don't believe any software on my system has anyway)

    Thanks for reading!

Hi, not quite sure if this is what you want when you say 'container' - anyway...

Using Windows search (file explorer search bar):
If I take a folder full of images and search thus:
    height:<1000 AND width:<1000
    - those dimensions are in pixels

Thus the images found are < those dimensions, and can be selected and moved or deleted as you wish.

Those would be found in that folder and any subfolders.

    Hey there, @dalchina !

That is super cool. I like it very much: leverage the OS! I haven't tried it yet, but I'm assuming I can just select all and move. done and done.

This actually brings me to another question. Here, you're using the native Search of Windows - which I believe does index the file system... to an extent. I'm ashamed to say I forgot about how cool the feature is. I even have a stock pile of Windows Search expressions (which I wanted to find to try to impress you! haha), but I'd rather just reply and say thank you.

I'm still getting used to Windows again. I think I used the Windows Search in XP SP3 ( i think it was optional? ), but I used it a lot! My question is: You could configure that version to index even networked locations \\location\somewhere, in the custom settings. Can I do that sort of customization with the native Windows 10 Search?

:aside: "container" lol. i don't know where that comes from. i mean directory, folder, etc.
    :)

You're welcome.. Windows search is so often derided by people- understandably as too often people just see a slow green progress bar, and it needs too much understanding for a consumer product.

Member steve108 here pointed out an option I'd never seen.. absolutely critical here, and set the wrong way by default:
Remove Icon-size Imgs from Image Library-1.jpg

I have my PCs indexed so that no system files are indexed, but I get instant results even if file explorer is open at My PC.

    As to expressions:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...s-aqsreference
is an old an incomplete description, but there isn't a better one.

    And see
Learning Windows Search: Stop Hunting and Start Finding!

MS damaged search from 1909 (1903 was the last build when search worked correctly- two features are now broken and remain so in Win 11) .

Yes, you can index networked locations.

I believe does index the file system... to an extent.
    - not sure to which limit you refer.

You can select what is indexed in numerous ways - by file type, by content, folder and file specific setting...
As to content indexing, which file type's content can be indexed depends on whether you have the 'ifilter' (see Indexing Options) for that file type. E.g. for pdf you need a pdf reader installed that also installs a pdf ifilter.
