    How to Uninstall WuMgr

    I few weeks ago I installed WuMgr and its been working well. Today it showed the Windows 11 Update was available. But after it was downloaded and doing the restart that was called for nothing happened. The Windows 11 update did not run.
    So, I thought I'd simply uninstall WuMgr and try the update through Window Update. Sadly, I was unable to figure out how to disable WuMgr and enable Windowes Update. Simply deleting the WuMgr folder didn't work. I found advice to use gpefit.msc to make the following group policy edits:
    Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Settings Page Visibility to Disabled and changing User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Show Only Specified Control Pane Items to Disabled.
    But when I did this and rebooted not only did the Windows Updates page fail to appear in Settings but the entire Setting menu was missing. What did I do wrong?

    Update:
    Well, here's what I did wrong. In WuMgr, I should have simply unselected "Disable Automatic Updates" and then checked to be sure that the "Hide WU Setting Page" box was no longer checked. When I did that and reboot then the normal Windows Update options came back. A serious case not taking a deep breath and reading all the menu items.

    Hello @SoFine409,

    Just for information with regard to uninstalling software . . .

     Revo Uninstaller - FREE

    About Revo Uninstaller - FREE:

    The Uninstaller module is Revo Uninstaller ‘s primary feature for situations when a program won’t uninstall normally or when you have some doubts that a program has not been uninstalled completely.

    Also when a program is uninstalled, often times there are multiple files, folders, and/or Registry entries left on your system, which can cause various issues if not removed. This happens more frequently than you might think.

    Revo Uninstaller acts as both a replacement and a supplement to the built-in functionality in Windows by first running the built-in uninstaller for the program, and then scanning for leftover data afterwards, making it your best choice when it comes to completely remove stubborn programs, temporary files, and other unnecessary program data that is left behind after the standard uninstall process.

    I find that when uninstalling software, Revo Uninstaller [ FREE ] is excellent. It has an option to Scan for leftover items after the initial uninstall [ using the software own uninstall process if one exists ] using an Advanced Scan option.

    > Website & Download => Revo Uninstaller [ FREE ]

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks @Paul Black. Revo is great, it’s on all my PCs. At one time I had a paid subscription but now I use the free version.

    When I discovered that MuMgr had no uninstall feature, my first thought was to use Revo; but unless you use WuMgr to return Windows Update to its normal state, you’ll end up with a crippled system with no ability to update. So I think that after returning Windows Update to its normal functioning state, the WuMgr folder can just simply be deleted, at least that’s the common consensus I found on line.

    In the end, I really just wanted to pause it temporarily to see why it wouldn’t allow the Win11 update to download and install. After I got the WuMgr sorted, I decided not to use Upgrade Windows 11 right now, especially because this is a gaming PC. Who needs the extra risk for such little gain? Just a learning experience.
