Rebuild BCD and assorted boot up componenets

I am really having trouble fixing the problem I have on Windows 10. I am trying to make a bootable USB recovery drive but, on booting up using the USB, I keep getting error messages about faulty BCD etc.

Question is - I obviously have damaged bootup components on my existing OS. I have already tried using the Windows System repair function but after going through the motions it comes back with the blue screen saying it's not possible to repair system. So, how can I get these boot up components reinstalled or repaired without a drastic clean install that would mean me reinstalling all non-windows programs???

ps. I even did an update for Win 10 in the hope that it installs new components but that doesn't seem to be the case....

Hi, you could start with e.g.
How to rebuild BCD or Boot Configuration Data file in Windows 11/10

Macrium reflect's bootable disk includes a useful Fix boot utility.

    Rebuild BCD

Thanks for quick reply. I will try the program EasyBCD mentioned somewhere in the tutorial. If that fails, how can I use the "Fixboot" option in the Macrium drive that you mentioned, considering my PC won't let it boot up ?? It's a chicken and egg situation.

Which is why I gave you the first option first....

That said, you should be able to boot from an external disk without reference to the internal system disk. Rather the point of what Macrium Reflect does, in fact.

    Rebuild BCD

The whole point is that the USB recovery drive I am trying to boot WAS made using Macrium. So, if it won't boot up, how can I possibly use it's Fixboot repair ??

Don't see why that should happen at all... but you say it does.

So- assuming you can't manage to boot to the Advanced Startup options (have you tried?)
try booting your PC from a Win 10 bootable disk. If you can't manage that... you do have a problem.

Then use that to boot to a command prompt and use the bootrec command as per the link I posted BEFORE I referred to Macrium.
