    WIN 10 apps not woking

Since a recent windows update the following apps have stopped working, when opened they hang and eventually crash.
I have restored the OS to an earlier date, reset the apps, cleared the ms store cache, ran health check to no avail, i really don't want to have to re-install the OS if i can help it, all the recommended options have not worked.

    OS version 19042.1288 (win10 pro 20H2)

    apps not working:

    Photos
    Feedback Hub
    Tips
    Search (in task bar)
    Microsoft Store
    People
    Maps
    Sticky Notes
    Calender
    Films&TV
    Get Help
    Messaging
    Mixed reality portal

Any help or tips is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I assume you've used either an appropriate System Restore point or perhaps a disk image. Do you use disk imaging regularly and routinely as is endlessly recommended by users here so you can recover from many situations without help - and often avoid a clean install?

    1. Try
Run Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter in Windows 10

    2. If you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user, do you see the same thing?
This is an important diagnostic step.

Based on that consider the appropriate section of
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10

    3. Consider an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.
You need a Win 10 iso file of the same major build and base language etc as you have now (freely downloadable) - see tenforums tutorials.

I ran this, and it found no issues, i also ran the troubleshooter from the control panel/troubleshooting and it found no issues!

The user app open and hung then crashed.

i carried out the in-place install (apps and files left intact), still have the same issues.

    Any more options?

Have you tried creating a new user AFTER having performed the in-place upgrade repair?

Otherwise, only a clean install, I'm afraid.

And of course, if you have followed the endlessly given advice here to use disk imaging regularly and routinely, you can restore an image of your O/S created before this problem occurred.
(e.g. Macrium Reflect - free/paid + large enough external disk for image storage).

The user app open and hung then crashed.
    I don't understand that- what's a 'user app'?
    - do you mean something went wrong when you attempted to create a new user?

i meant "accounts", when i clicked on " add a family member" or "add someone else to this PC" i got a black window which stayed in that state till i closed it, something was very wrong, and in the end i used the media creation tool to install a fresh copy, actually i installed 21H1 - build 19043.928, and all is well again, it's just a huge pain in the a$$ to re-install all the hp drivers and then office365, then the docs and media etc etc...

    thanks for your help, anyway.

It's not always possible for members here to help people recover systems from random events, unfortunately.

The way you can help yourself and give yourself a second chance - and a full backup- even if your disk fails or your PC is stolen- is to use disk imaging regularly and routinely- 3rd party as MS itself recommends. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) is popular here as I mentioned above.

Don't leave creating your 1st disk image too late.

Doing this can often save you the pain of a clean install.

When I clean install Windows, I create my first image as soon as I can. I configure and install a few things, keeping notes, then create a differential image, then keep repeating that.

The beginner's mistake is to rush in and install everything- and at the end create a disk image.
