    FireTV Stick

Does anyone have or use the Amazon Firetv Stick? The one I have is about 2 years old and I have a VPN for using the amazons internet. When I am watch tv shows (on the internet), I get a lot of buffering. This really ticks me off.

I try to keep any applications I am not using turned off on the stick. This may or may not help.

    Any suggestion?

Would it be worth the cost to get the 4k version of the Firetv Stick?

    Thanks

If buffering ticks you off, the 4K version will make you furious. It will buffer even more as there is more data to exchange between the FireTV stick and the router/wireless. The problem is with the bandwidth of your router/wireless network and the speed at which it delivers data to the stick. I have the occasional problem with mine doing the same thing, but upgrading my wireless network at home made the problem go away.

I dunno, YMMV, but it might help.

I have no problems with the 4k version on 15Mbs & 50 Mbs WiFi links.

Try it without the VPN. Pretty much all VPNs slow the internet speed. Some more than others.

I may have found a working solution. I went to youtube.com and there found numerous suggestions.

These are the ones that seemed to work for me:
Check DL speed and need at least 50 mb/s for good streaming
    Over 90 mb/sec
Get a program called "Background App)
    Can find that under "Search"
    Change Settings on Firestick
    Close "Background Apps"
At top left select "Close All Apps"
This brings up a list and can select each App for closure.

    Go to Settings again
    Select "Preferences"
    Scroll down to "Featured Content"
    Turn the apps off
Preferences then Feature Content and turn both off.

I have done all these and last night I watched CBS for 3 hours and had only one (lasted maybe 2 seconds) minor buffering event.

    WOW that was amazing.

Absolutely -- as you can install all sorts of sideloaded apps e.g VPN's etc.

I installed KODI on it -- brilliant as I don't then need a server to play multi media files from a remote computer -- For around 30 EUR this device can also turn any TV into a decent smart TV. Note though the latest versions need decent Wifi - don't need to mess around with the older boxes that had LAN possibilities - although there are adapters available.

    Cheers
