    Program disappeared

Started laptop, clicked on icon in taskbar to start program but instead of starting as usual I had a popup saying the program could not be found and that it could have been deleted.

The programs folder is still in 'Programs files' but it does not now have the program.exe file.
How has this program suddenly disappeared from my laptop?

Does Windows defender have anything to say on the matter?

    WD,
    Virus & threat protection,
    Protection history

    Best of luck,
    Denis

What is the name of the program? Have you tried reinstalling it?

You are right, Windows defender has blocked it.
It is a program called Tixati.
I've allowed access but it still does not appear when I restart my laptop.
    Has Windows actually deleted it?
Any idea what I should do next, any settings in Windows Defender to change?

Also, have a look at the Related Tutorials at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial [ there are a few ], as they may also be related.

Also this might be useful . . .

    Thanks for the links.
Not sure if I should choose 'folder' or 'file' when excluding Tixati from Windows Security.
Insided the folder for Tixati in 'Program files' Tixati.exe has been removed.
Even if I allow Tixati through Windows Security, has Windows actually deleted the program. Can I actually get this program back?

I think you will need to reinstall Taxati if you cannot get WD to restore it
    - It can be a real pig in this respect. Mine just cleared its records of detections this afternoon so if there was anything additional then I won't know until, like you, I try to use something that's missing. It showed them again later on; I have no idea what its temporary problem was.
    - If restore is available, it will be in the Protection history list. You have to click on each entry to see what options are available for it [they do not appear when you are looking at the whole list]. What you hope for is Restore, then go back to it and hope for Allow.

When you reinstall it, add the Tixati.exe file rather than its folder to WD exclusions. Assuming, that is, that Taxati is not malign.
    - Torrents can hide malware quite effectively and that is probably why WD does not like it.

Could also run the exe file thru VirusTotal and see what it has to say.

This is an example result (i scanned a plain text doc)

    Thanks for your replies.

I can't get Windows to restore Tixati when clicking 'allow' in Protection History. Is this the only way in trying to get Windows to restore Tixati?

If this is the only way, should I just install Tixati again even though I still have a folder for Tixati in Program Files and a folder with completed downloads are still there.

In the Tixati folder in Program Files there is a uninstall.exe with a red cross through it. Should I use that?

Should I run BCUninstaller, get rid of as much of Tixati as possible and reinstall it again?

I don't want to run the risk with parts of the old install interfering with the new install.

Just for information ; I just test installed version 2.85.1.0 64bit (although I did not dare to run it), and then scanned it multiple times with Windows Defender, but it did not get flagged. At VirusTotal, it got a score of 1/66 (it is flagged as a PUA... by Microsoft only).

    VirusTotal

If that was the version you originally installed, I don't know the reason why Defender would have deleted it on your PC.

Apparently, there is a portable version of Tixati 2.85.1.0, which contains an identical version of the installed version Tixati.exe but it is named, "tixati_Windows64bit.exe" . If you are sure that you had installed Ver 2.85.1.0, you could try and extract the executable from the Portable Version, rename it to Tixati.exe and copy it to the Tixati folder, and try again without uninstalling anything.
