MS Photos exports edited video files but with zero data

I quite often shorten MP4 videos via the video editor within MS Photos. I use the export facility and then play these using VLC. However, I had one video that wouldn't play and I noticed that where it is listed in Windows Explorer it is showing as "0 kb". I tried it with a different video and the same thing happened - appeared to export but it is saved with zero data. The original video (before splitting) was playing fine in both instances.

I am doing nothing differently and I have not changed any settings so I wonder if anyone can guide me as to what might be happening.

    Thanks in advance.

    I am using W10 Pro - Version 2004 - OS Build 19041 1237

(Sorry if this is not the right forum)

Source of the (original) video before editing? Is it the same as others that have worked?

What file format, and what video stream format?

The built-in Windows software is pretty basic, and not very sophisticated especially for some multimedia tasks. The fact that some may have worked earlier is probably more good luck than anything else.

    Thanks for responding.

The source is exactly the same, yes and I have done so many I have lost count. They come in as MP4s and they are exported as MP4s. I am sorry but the meaning of "what video stream format?" is lost on me but I am not techie. Could you please expand on this.

To me it seems like this is happening suddenly as it were.

Don't know if same situation but I find editing photos then saving with a different name makes it a new file and some data/properties about it is lost, nothing added by the editing program.

I am not aware of it being changed in any way other than the video is shorter. I would tend to save file 123456 as 123456{2]. The odd thing is that I have never encountered it doing this before.

What is even more confusing ...

I did two videos last night, both exported but are listed as 0 kb - as I say this has not happened before. I tried repairing and then resetting Photos but it still did it.

I did a different one this am and it was ok. So ... I have just redone one that exported as 0 kb yesterday and now it is ok???

I am wondering whether this is some form of bug or frailty within Photos. I am not a great fan of the appas that ship with W10 - maybe I need a more reliable (but hopefully) straightforward video editor. If anyone can recommend that would be great!
