USBDeview Shows I Have A Video USB Device Connected But I Don't !

I use a program called USBDeview which lists all usb devices whether connected or not, sometimes I clear the list of all devices which I did today and then restarted my computer.

With no USB devices connected, when restart was completed USBDeview showed the attached "Video Device" and the line underneath. I have never installed a video device of any kind on my computer and wondered if this is showing up on other peoples machines that use USBDeview.

Laptop has an inbuilt webcam within the lid assembly like most other laptops, but surely this would not be USB.

It's 'cos the USB and PCI buses share hardware connections. USB doesn't communicate directly with the CPU. Instead it communicates across the PCI bus first... and the PCI bus then communicates directly with the CPU.

The reason it's implemented like that is cost. USB components are far simpler in design and therefore cheaper than PCI components. The actual data speed and power requirements for a webcam are relatively minor so manufacturers cut costs by using a USB interface to route through to the processor.

    Hope this helps...
