When I said if y'all had the last update, I meant the official Windows Update. It was a few days ago and that was when my classic shell stopped working. I guess I have to do without the classic shell. That's for y'all's help.
I've been using OpenShell 4.4.160 since last October. Because I get the same symptoms after installing the August Windows Updates on Windows 10 Home, I've uninstalled OpenShell and installed Stardock's Start10. I don't think I like it quite as well, but it's better than not having either one.

    I think your mean Open-Shell?
As stated, Uninstall Classic Shell, also Open-Shell if it is in the Programs and Features using Revo Uninstaller. Be sure to use the Advanced method to remove all Registry settings. Then restart. Before reinstalling, test the Start button to make sure it loads the normal Windows 10 Start Menu. If not, then you have another issue. If the Normal Start button works, then, As stated, download the latest Open-Shell Vs 4_4_160 not necessary, but Restart anyways before using, just to be sure.

As said in another reply, I've been using Open-Shell Vs 4_4_160 for months. Admittedly, I haven't done all this uninstalling and re-installing, but before I consider that, please confirm that it still works after installing the August cumulative update for Windows 10 21H1 (KB5005033) hopefully on Windows 10 Home.

We know it works in Win 10 21H1, but do you have experience of it working in Win 10 21H1 with the 2021-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5005033) installed?

It worked fine before that update was installed, but for me and apparently at least one other person, not after that update was installed.

(I think I've now discovered other issues with this update installed, but that's probably not germane here).

Same question I just asked spunk.
Open Shell is working in Win10 21H1 with KB5005033 on two PCs one 10 Pro and one 10 home without having to mess with anything and also working in Win 11 on two Pro PCs, worked straight away after upgrading from 10.

Thanks for that. I'll experiment some more.

What do you consider the latest OpenShell? 4.4.160 o4 4.4.169?

Thanks for that also. It seems like there must be something else going on because it sounds like different people have to do different things (or nothing at all) to get it working. I'll continue to try things.
