    Not a bother.

You could buy an external DVD drive to connect up whenever you want to. They are a lot cheaper than replacements for fitted/internal DVD drives and can be moved from computer to computer over time.

You could also disable the non-functioning DVD drive in Bios [or just in Device manager] to stop its ghost appearing in, say, File explorer.

Oh, one more quick question...my Troubleshooter appears to be non-functional as well. How would one go about resetting that little jewel?

I don't know much about troubleshooters but perhaps it was not written to be able to cope with faulty hardware.

There might be some guidance in this tutorial
    Troubleshoot problems - TenForumsTutorials
or perhaps you could post a request for assistance there.

    Best of luck,

My wife has a Toshiba Satellite C655 Notebook about 5 years old and I had to replace the Optical Disc Drive just 3 months ago as it didn't play.

It may have also something to do with the Windows DVD Player app. I think it's required to play DVDs on Windows 10, unless I'm mistaken. It costs US$15 though, so just downloading VLC for free would be my choice.

Microsoft's support article says that app is required for editions of Windows that can't play DVDs, but which editions are that?
