Windows 10 and Moneysoft App problems

Edition Windows 10 HomeVersion 21H1Installed on ‎25/‎06/‎2020OS build 19043.1110Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

I have a weird problem with my Money Manager Moneysoft Files. Overnight, the date column of the Entries Screen has become enormous, making it impossible for me to view the entire Entry Screen at once. I can change the view using the arrows at the foot of the screen, but as soon as I enter anything, it springs back to the wide date column.

Moneysoft says it has never seen it before and it cannot help. There is nothing in their support files that helps.

I have also for some time had problems getting Windows 10 to save Moneysoft Files. It does not always save to the default folder and when it does, it duplicates folders outside the default one. I get round this to some extent by saving a backup and restoring it to the same folder. I copy the files to external hard drives and they seem to preserve them ok.

I realse this is a faint hope but has anyone any ideas what could be causing this ? I am loth to give the programme up as I have been using it for years and need the records.

    Thanks in advance.

FWIW I still use the excellent program Microsoft Money which works fine in Windows 10 /11. I use the 2005 UK version. All versions are still available free.

    Hello @PostmanPuzzled,

Quite often, the latest versions of Software can cause a problem or NOT perform as smoothly as a previous version. This could be down to Compatibility issues or something completely different.

It might be worth trying a previous version => MoneySoft - Download Old Versions

    I hope this helps.

Thankyou both for replying. I am embarrassed to report that all I had to do was to select the border of the column title heading - windows came up with the pointers with paralell vertical lines between and I was able to reduce the column to its normal size. Moneysoft either did not know this or couldn`t be bothered to point it out. The suggestion re re-installing Version 6 was useful though. I checked that I would not lose any files if I did this so I will keep that up my sleeve.

thankyou again. response stopped me panicking !

I am glad that you found an explanation and solution to the problem.

Sorry I should have marked this solved.

Re Money Manager 6 though, notice in their blurb that it will not run on x64 bit nor on Windows 7. Cannot see any info on Windows 10 but as I have a 64 bit system alas it is of no use to me. I am now getting messages that my Moneysoft 7 programme and files (some files ? not sure how many) are corrupt so may have to uninstall and re-install version 7.

Adding this in case someone else has similar problems.

    Thanks again for input.

Windows 10 and Moneysoft App Problems

For anyone who reads this in desperation.

I got on to Moneysoft support and they answered very promptly as usual, and very usefully for a change !

They advised me to clear the Temporary Internet cache. I had already done that a few days before but I tried it again and this time it worked and I was at least able to download the programme from their DOWNLOAD site. Iowever, many of my files continued to come back with Error Message: this file is corrupt. Sometimes a "would you like Moneysoft to attemtp automatic repair" message would follow When accepted, result was sometimes successful but increasingly frequently it was not. I deleted the latter in the hopes of stopping any corruption spreading (I had too many backups in too many places some of them very old ) but that did not work either.

Today I found my way to a Microsoft Troubleshooter site covering Money Manager and was told Moneysoft is incompatible with Windows 10 ! I suspect this has more to do with other ongoing problems I have been having with the PC and will probably have to go for a Clean Install.

I am giving up on Moneysoft and designing my own record on Excel. I only need something relatively simple anyway.

Thanks for all inputs. I cannot really sign this solved. Is there any alternative ? Grateful for a chance to share anyway.

    Marie,

    Please clarify this comment.
    - Remember that the things that look like folders in File explorer, ThisPC are not folders. They are disguised shortcuts to take you to, for example, C:\Users\%UserName%\Documents
    - Please post the path of the default folder & the "duplicates "

    All the best,
    Denis

Sorry only saw this after I posted on User Account Confusions.

The default path for Moneysoft downloads was
    This PC > Windows (C:) Users> Funf> Documents > Money > Moneysoft Accounts > Moneysoft Current.

I changed the default path just prior to deciding to uninstall Money Manager to:
    This PC > Windows (C:) >Users >alias> Documents >Money>Moneysoft Accounts>Moneysoft Current/

I did this because at that stage sfc or DISM (not certain which now) showed a link to FUNF from an unsolved problem.
I hoped this might be the source of the persistent messages that the Moneysoft files were corrupt. But changing to alias made no difference.

alias is the first part of my Microsoft email address and the name of the Microsoft User Account with admin privileges.

Thank you again for your time. I can always re-install Money Manager if it seems feasible but I have little confidence in the programme now. I think I will waste a lot less time if I create an Excel chart, or charts that does the same job.

My user accounts have peculiar names because I am trying to avoid my own name which has been causing confusion for several years..

There are some Excel templates on Create more with Microsoft templates that may save you some time, I found some I like.
