Windows 10 and Moneysoft App Problems

Many thanks for the reminder. I have used Excel for working out the precise measurements for a (small) kitchen and managing accounts and teaching resources for piano teaching and it is amazing what you can do on it. I really liked Money Manager but have been wasting enormous amounts of time on it trying to get it to work for me. I am looking forward to designing my own little system.

You might or might not be interested in this sample account management Excel spreadsheet.

It can be expanded to include as many accounts as you want.

There's a description of it in

Many here including me still use the excellent free MS Money 2005 which works fine in Windows 10 and 11. The latest UK version is file Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe. You can get it from various sources including here Download Microsoft Money 2005 for free – View from the Potting Shed or here Money 2005 Patches made available by Microsoft [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

There are some tweaks I can advise you on if you decide to use it.

Thanks for all suggestions. To my amazement, yesterday, after uninstalling Money Manager again, I found I really needed some info concerning a fairly recent transaction and could not find it elsewhere . At the same time when pruning old backups I found a backup file under the User Account name I have been endeavouring to remove altogether. It was named Files transferred August 2019>user name:>Data>Backup C: with a note not to delete without checking first !

In this folder I found some Moneysoft files that opened without any problem. Oddly enough they included files edited up to the end of July 2021. I transferred copies of them to 3 different external hard drives and in each they opened without any problem. Finally I risked transferring copies to my current Microsoft Administrative User Account and they are still fine.
I have deleted the old folder where I found them and they are still fine.

I will probably try the Excel route but it makes life much easier in the short term to use Moneysoft for the time being. I suspect the problem with it stemmed more from the User Account confusions which have finally been sorted, combined with further confusions I created by altering the default save location for Moneysoft several times .The files that functioned predated alterations I made to the default entry in their Program Section.

I hope this ramble may prove useful to someone if only because of the relevant links to Excel provided.

Many thanks. Marking this solved for me at any rate.

Windows 10 and Moneysoft App Problems

I know this is an old thread but the old problem returned recently. I found in windowsphone.com credit to Life Hacker
that Windows 10 more recently (sometimes ?) defaults to opening Windows Explorer in Quick Access. This can be changed to This PC under Home>View>Options. For me that solved the problem. When I clicked on the Moneysoft Desktop icon, instead of opening the most recent backed up and restored Moneysoft File it was opening an earlier version in Quick Access !

Just adding this in case anyone else is searching this problem. Hope it helps.
