i found out that sound is not working on laptops 11th generations and above
i wanted to ask if this related to missing drivers or this is because i created my WinPE from windows 10 1809 which is an old version of windows 10

i would be glad if someone could enlighten me about this
i also know that if Wifi or lan not working is because of missing drivers , but i wanted to ask about Audio if it's same thing or it's an issue with my WinPE because it's from windows 10 1809
As far I know audio is same thing, missing drivers. I remember that same laptops used 2 drivers to activate sound, one from Intel and other from realtek. It was not in 11th generation but shoud be the case, missing drivers.
    Can you give laptop model?

    i integrated these drivers
    https://catalog.s.download.windowsup...8900c415d6.cab

and tested , same thing sound not working
i tried a WinPE based on Windows 11 23h2 , same thing sound not working , integrated the drivers same thing sound not working

i also found wifi not working , unfortunately Disk wasn't showing even thought i integrated the related RAID drivers , and intel optane drivers but i think they are either old or not compatible , i don't know

the problem is , it's not my laptop , it's a laptop of a friend of my brother .....
so i wont be able to do more tests unfortunately as he is hard to reach , it was a time try

Haven't done anything with WIN10XPE for quite awhile so started from scratch.

    1. Downloaded and unzipped Win10XPE_2023-08-23.7z.001, unzipped Win10XPE_2023-08-23.7z.001.
    2. Started WinBuilder
    3. Downloaded source ISO. Only Windows 10 choice is 22H2 v1 (Build 19045.2965 - 2023.05).

Win10XPE - Build Your Own Rescue Media [2]-iso-download.jpg
    It downloaded Win10_22H2_EnglishInternational_x64v1.iso.

    4. I mounted the ISO (F:) then copied the contents to my hard drive (robocopy F:\ \D:\Win10_Source_Media /e /dcopy:t).
    5. Identified F:\ \D:\Win10_Source_Media as source folder.
Win10XPE - Build Your Own Rescue Media [2]-win-10-source-choose-image.jpg
    5. Made no other changes, just clicked on Play.

    Build failed:
    warning   Warning
    (Core.script) Winre.wim Version (10.0.19041.1) Does Not match Install.wim Version (10.0.19041.2965).
Incompatibilities Are Likely to Occur With Perhaps an Unreliable Result.
    Preferably Use Windows 10 version 2004 - 20H1
(script.project) Build Stopped by script Command.

Do I really have to go back to 19041.1?

I clicked Play again and clicked on Continue when I got the mismatch error message and build started with Build Core [core.script].
I'll update this post when build completes or fails.
    Build failed again:

If there are problems, you could check if boot.wim is the matching build.

    C:\Windows\System32>dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:\Win10_Source_Media\sources\boot.wim

    Index : 2
Name : Microsoft Windows Setup (x64)
Description : Microsoft Windows Setup (x64)
    Size : 2,002,986,604 bytes

    C:\Windows\System32>dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:\Win10_Source_Media\sources\boot.wim /index:2

    Version : 10.0.19041
    ServicePack Build : 2965

    It matches the ISO I downloaded (WimInfo.ini BUILD=19041 SPBUILD=2965) but doesn't match the WIN10XPE expected values (WinReInfo.ini BUILD=19041 SPBUILD=1).

I could change SPBUILD in WinReInfo.ini to match and see what happens.

Edit: Nope, no difference, still get the mismatch error. Clicked continue and this time it ran to completion without errors.

Time to create a bootable flash drive and see if it works.

No idea why it worked this time. Guess it just had to wear a few grooves in the drive.

uncheck Google Chrome SCRIPT and make new build...
or add // to line 354
    Code:
    //RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,Tmp_Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http\UserChoice,Progid,ChromeURL

I did, and got a complete build (see my last post).
Made the flash drive and it booted but Windows 10 dies.

Oh crap, I forgot I'm running Windows 11. Can I build Windows 10 on a Windows 11 system????

I can setup a Windows 10 VM and build from there perhaps?

It is a long time since I looked at win10xpe. Did you use boot.wim as the base instead of winre.wim ?

    Winre.wim Version (10.0.19041.1) Does Not match Install.wim Version (10.0.19041.2965)
    C:\Windows\System32>dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:\Win10_Source_Media\sources\boot.wim /index:2

    Version : 10.0.19041
    ServicePack Build : 2965
that is more likely to be successful.

    Win10XPE > Uses the WinRE.wim --
How many times must that be repeated, before it is understood here??

    Win10XPE > Uses the WinRE.wim --
    @Ztruker

Perhaps try to build your pe another way.

If you dont know how to do that, then try a workaround if you want to use win10xpe.

The obvious thing is export boot.wim image 2 as winre.wim

Mount whatever install.wim image you want to use, and replace the original mount\windows\system32\recovery\winre.wim
with the one you just created. That is assuming win10xpe extracts winre.wim from the selected install.wim image.

I dont know what it does now, I haven't looked at it for a long while.
