@skibum
it needs to write to a writable media and can't so I'm guessing your source is a mounted iso, try extracting your source iso to a folder and then select that folder as your source
Okay, I give up for a while. My host OS found a downloader virus on the virtual HDD and crashed the VM. This is ridiculous. I didn't even know Defender could somehow mount an already-mounted (in VBox) virtual drive and then rummage through it. What is the point of virtualization for protection if the host OS can mount and read the dang HDD file? The second my major games run on Linux natively, I am gone.
Also, the virus found was "O97M/DDEDownloader.O". Not sure if it is related to the tool you guys use to download stuff or what. This is a clean VM (21H2) used only for building 10 XPE.
Uploaded a screencap of the problem just now.
@Xenithar
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with your methodology, that's why we advise doing things the way we do - after nearly 400K downloads and many years of trying to help new users, some of which have these false positives, when they go their own way. With respect, as an IT security expert you'll need to make your own decisions whether to continue or not.
Why not try it on a spare desktop/laptop with a local drive. (or two)
I am doing it the way you said to. I literally put it on the root of a drive, and when I did that it got caught by the virus scanner. I am doing it by the instructions given to me a page or two back. I downloaded the 7-zip file from the link on page one. I extracted it to the root of C:\ in the VM (VM has Defender disabled via GPO) as I was told to do. I updated the mega optional download script as instructed. Then the host OS crashes the VM because Defender somehow found a virus inside the mounted and running VM and deleted the VDI file. I know there's a tool in there that gets flagged as a false positive which is why I do these things in a VM. Having the host OS scan inside a running VDI file, that's new.
I have been able to reproduce this though. When the extracted zip is on the desktop it does not get caught. When I extract right to the root of C: in the VM, it gets caught. Maybe Defender can only scan so deep inside of a virtual disk image file. I am not blaming this on anybody here. This is Microsoft making me love my Gentoo install more and more. You guys have a great tool and I have used it without an issue in the past. This is new and is the direct result of Defender breaking all the rules (who tries to access a mounted file?) and wiping an entire VM.

but the sound is OFF.
What can I do?
Thanks.
Greetings,
Johnnyvv40
Thank you, ChrisR. That was quick. I wasn't expecting news on the update let alone the update itself till further into next week. Again, thank you for your continued development and support of this versatile project. And many thanks to Kyhi and APT38 for all their daily assistance. I lack the vocabulary to fully express my appreciation of you all.
Regards
