HP Smart keeps re-installing. Stop or block?

A printer-related program called HP Smart keeps coming baaaack! I uninstall it, and the next time I have to look at the apps list for something, I find it back in there.

There is an HP service, but I've stopped it and disabled it.

I have no HP printers, but there was a networked HP connected to another computer a while back.

    Any help sincerely appreciated.

Checked registry. It's all over. Says it's Windows Store App for Your Printer. There's a package ID.

Never mind. I found the HP service in Services and disabled it again a few days ago, and the HP Smart annoyance hasn't come back since. And (surprise!) the last time I checked Services the Disabled HP Service had disappeared.

I am glad you got this sorted out.

I had been reluctant to download and install HP Smart ever since it came out. I had been content to just do it the old fashion way of manually installing the drivers for my printer. Some time last year in a moment of weakness I downloaded and installed HP Smart. I became frustrated in how dumb down the process had become. Half way through I deleted the program and went back to doing it the old way. I should have been suspicious in how they promoted HP Smart and relegated the traditionally way as only for professionals.

For a while after I uninstalled and deleted HP Smart I kept getting reminders to download it. Eventually it stopped. I don't remember for sure but there may have something that started at boot that checked for HP updates.

    Hey, Ed!

The thing that did it for me (or TO me, actually) was "HP Print Scan Doctor Service" in Services. It kept re-setting itself to Automatic a boot or two or three after I'd disabled it, and when it ran, I'm sure it was the source of the "I'm baaack!" HP Smart app (a MS Store app, and you know how pestiferous those things can be), which I had uninstalled several times. Finally, as reported above, the disabling seemed to take, and the service disappeared, on one computer.

I had forgotten this, but a long while ago I saw the HP Print Scan Doctor Service in Services on my older computer, and I edited it out of the registry successfully -- no more HP Smart on that one ever.

Having HP print services and print apps on a machine that has no HP peripherals and doesn't even connect on its network to a computer that has an HP printer or scanner makes no sense to me. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
