I had SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018, just uninstalled it [due to non-use on smallish SSD] using its uninstall routine, doesn't seem to be a problem.

    Strange!

Normally, Revo Uninstaller will use the Softwares OWN uninstaller FIRST, if there is one, and then give you a list of the Leftover Items in the Registry etc. This is what I normally post with regard to Revo Uninstaller . . .

     Revo Uninstaller - FREE

    About Revo Uninstaller - FREE:

The Uninstaller module is Revo Uninstaller ‘s primary feature for situations when a program won’t uninstall normally or when you have some doubts that a program has not been uninstalled completely.

Also when a program is uninstalled, often times there are multiple files, folders, and/or Registry entries left on your system, which can cause various issues if not removed. This happens more frequently than you might think.

Revo Uninstaller acts as both a replacement and a supplement to the built-in functionality in Windows by first running the built-in uninstaller for the program, and then scanning for leftover data afterwards, making it your best choice when it comes to completely remove stubborn programs, temporary files, and other unnecessary program data that is left behind after the standard uninstall process.

I find that when uninstalling software, Revo Uninstaller [ FREE ] is excellent. It has an option to Scan for leftover items after the initial uninstall [ using the software own uninstall process if one exists ] using an Advanced Scan option.

    > Website & Download => Revo Uninstaller [ FREE ]

    I hope this helps!

Maybe you cleaned up the installer folder or used a third party system cleaner that removed the installer.

In that case reinstall the program then uninstall it.

Reinstalled and opened REVO, where it was now showing. Using the advanced scan revealed a massive sprawling thing, that took ages to remove. The leftovers to be cleared after a restart; some were still showing, giving a lot more work to completely uninstall. Oddly the program downloaded to public desktop rather than my download folder.

Some installed Programs embed themselves deep into the OS [ Program Data, Registry etc ], it is surprising. I normally check EVERYTHING and then click Delete, then check EVERYTHING that is left to be removed after a Restart and then click Delete.

[1] So what is the situation now?
    [2] Is it actually Uninstalled?

    I hope this helps.

If you read this I meant reinstall Softmaker Office then uninstall it using Revo or any other decent free third party uninstaller.

Possibly you read the above as "reinstall Revo"

Seems, despite my labours, the registry has numerous entries. Is it safe to delete them manually after backing the registry up?

You are correct, after safely backing up the Registry En toto, then you can probably remove Softmaker Office registry remains. I have found out that not always do partial backups/partial restores work as one hopes. I trust total registry backups and restores much more.

addendum: RickC's following post has things to really consider!

    Not necessarily.

For example, during the install of SoftMaker FreeOffice, did you tick the 3 checkmarks to associate 3 groups of filetypes with FreeOffice?

Uninstalling Soft Maker Free Office: No way-softmaker_file_associations.png

If so then just deleting every registry entry that mentions SoftMaker may remove the amended filetype associations but not restore the original default filetype associations.

As a result you would have to use Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Reset to fix any errors.

You might wish to consider using Nir Sofer's RegScanner.

    1. Download the correct 'bitness' version for your system, unpack it then run the executable using 'Run as administrator'.
    2. When the GUI opens, search for softmaker then, when the scan has completed, press CTRL+a (or Edit > Select All) then select Create Delete .Reg File (from the File menu).
    3. Upload the .Reg file here as an attachment so we can take a look at it. (Make sure you do NOT merge it before it can be checked.)

    Hope this helps...

As a matter of interest, when using Revo Uninstaller Free, did you use Revo's Moderate or Advanced scan?

I mention this only because I did a test and found that uninstallation with Revo using its Advanced scan was very much more efficient at removing leftover registry entries than Geek Uninstaller (which, up until now, I had preferred).
