Designing A1 poster using Scribus or Publisher

I need to design an A1 poster. Previously, when I could justify cost, I would have used Adobe Indesign. Now I need to use Publisher or Scribus as this is just a one-off project for a local charity.

Scribus seems to be the best option given its similarity to Indesign. Publisher doesn't seem to be able to output an A1 sized PDF (unless I am missing something).

However Scribus is continually crashing. One way it does so is repeatable, but it does happen at other times.
Using latest version of Windows 10 and Scribus 1.8.4
    PC - Intel Core i7 @ 3.20GHz, 16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1333MHz (19-19-19-43), Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z370N WIFI-CF (U3E1)
I have no problems with any other app so PC not at fault. I do suspect that Scribus may not be able to cope with a large document but I have no evidence for saying that.

I have designed the panel size A1 + 20 mm bleed. Contains 5 text boxes, 5 graphic boxes.
I can add a graphic to one of the boxes, but as soon as I try and adjust it to fit the box, or even if it fits the box, when I try to save it, Scribus just disappears. No message, no indication of a crash, just simply switches off as if I clicked Close.
With persistence, doing one thing, saving, then following the crash, re-opening and doing the next step, sometimes it works. Other times it just closes down again.

Presumably you have installed "GhostScript" as well and it shows up in Preferences > External Tools under "Postscript Interpreter" ?

Assuming this is it - C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.54.0\bin\gswin64c.exe, yes.
    Shows in External Tools.

Have you tried the Portable version of Scribus, to see if that works ? ( The portable version may be able to isolate it from possible interference from other software on your PC ).

I tried the installable and also the portable versions of Scribus (together with portabe GhostScript and prortable Gimp), and in the limited document editing that I carried out, overall Scribus seems quite stable with a low CPU and memory count at least for the test doument that I created. I have attached the .sla file here, in case you want to try and see if you can resize/reframe the images (which are all regular/normal images from the Windows directory ).

Thanks Das, I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

No joy I'm afraid. I could open your file but as soon as I tried to unlock a graphic to edit it, app closed down. I also uninstalled the first version (and ran CCleaner for good measure) and installed the portable measure. But that too had the same problem that the original version had.

I noted that there is a version (1.5.) now available (since I downloaded 1.4). It is beta, but worth a try. Can't be worse that current problem!

Success - at least so far! I cleared out previous attempts and then installed the 1.5 beta version. That seems to be working without any problems. All the things I had been trying and failing to do before now completed.
    Thanks for your help.
