Free tools for recording a webinar or othe program online

Reading through all the descriptions for different programs for recording a webinar has only confused me. I would like to record webinars so I can watch them again. For a content-heavy topic like all the different features in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop there is simply too much information to absorb it all in real time.

However, lots of webinars (or videos) I watch don't have a download link. My needs are very simple. Turn on the recorder to capture video and audio of a browser window. Optionally set a timer. Then save the result in a common video format.

Editing and sharing options aren't important for me. I don't need to record any videos on my system to distribution, and I don't know what are the other features I don't need.

    Thanks.

    Logitech Capture

    • Good Options
    • Excellent quality
    • Absolutely free

Better have a video card with some horsepower though!
    (see system requirements)

Caveat: do your homework on the legalities of recording web content!

I use the free edition of ActivePresenter for this. It records video and audio.

I found these links useful in getting to grips with it -
Tutorials - ActivePresenter - Screen Recording & Interactive ELearning Authoring Software
    ActivePresenter Community

I use ActivePresenter's own editing capabilities to trim out any unwanted bits at the start & end
    - I always have bits to trim off because I get the recording running and then worry about starting the webinar.
    - To trim bits off, I click in the timeline itself rather than the waveform display and then drag around the start-end markers that appear.

    All the best,
    Denis

To everyone who replied. I didn't try the Windows Game Bar, but I did try four of the programs recommended in this thread.

Only OBS Studio checked all my boxes: free (and not crippleware), records browser windows. Some of the other recommendations were designed for the user to create videos for redistribution. Definitely not something I needed.
