    Voice Recorder Crashes

I have been using Windows Voice Recorder for sometime . i liked it because it`s easy to run and the recordings have a clear sound. I have become familiar with how to save the files, transfer them and rename the files. I have the Voice Recorder working on my cell phone and on another implementation of Win10. The only problem I am having is with this installation.

I would like to unravel what causes it to crash a few seconds after loading. I have:

    • used Avast Driver Updater to determined that the correct drivers are installed
    • used Avast Primum to remove corrupt files and repair broken files
    • ran Deployment Image Servicing and Management to repair system files
    • ran System File Checker to verify there are no integrity errors
    • made a backup and restored it to a different hard drive, the error was still there

I intend to use Process Monitor to create a log file of what is happening and determine what is causing the crashes,
    Want to help me?

Is this the same PC where you reported this problem here:
How to purify a corrupt User
    - and have you tried re-registering it as per my first post there (no acknowledgement)?

And are there any other issues remaining after your registry activities?

    Hi Dalchina,
I tried to use the program you recommended. I have a feeling it is the solution to my problem but I have not got it to work. The file name is Re-Install and Re-Register a Single App for Current Account . The instructions were:

    1. Open a Command Prompt
    2. Copy and Paste the command

These image files show what happened when I tried to enter the instruction in Command prompt.

    & {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *WindowsSoundRecorder*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}

Hi, screenshots in ? dark mode ? like that are pretty much unreadable. Please ensure there's good contrast in your images before posting. The first does not expand.

In the second you seem to have just part of the command string. It does not start with 'Powershell'.

The basic thing people get wrong is not following the instructions carefully.

    Let's look at Option 2.
OPTION TWO To Reinstall and Re-register Specific App for Current Account
I will copy and paste the instructions from the tutorial for you.
    1
    1. Open a command prompt.

    2. Copy and paste this entire line, starting from 'Powershell'

    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *WindowsSoundRecorder*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

    3. Press the 'enter' key

    Hi daichina,

I tried two editing tools and could not find a way to change the background color I copied and pasted the images into Paint from the snipping tool. Inside Paint I could not find a way to change the background color therefore I saved the image in a JPG file format and imported the JPG into Photos app. Again I could not figure-out how to change the background color but I did resize them and saved the images as JPGs. Would you recommend image editing tool that I should use.

I tried to copy and paste the command from Re-Install and Re-Register a Single App for Current Account but I could not get the copy command to work so I ended-up typing it in. I am a lousy typist. I had to do it three times before I finally got the typing right. Now I see I should have copied the entire line. Starting with PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *WindowsSoundRecorder*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for help I have a feeling it`s about to work.

I have a feeling the reason Voice Recorder is crashing is a licensing problem. The reason I say that is the hardware is fine, Windows is up-to-date and there are no driver issues. And the User account on this implementation once was distorted. It was repaired and now if you go to Control Panel > User the information is correct and if you went to File Explorer > User it`s OK there too. The same thing has happened on another SSD I use in this PC' On that SSD the User account has not been changed. Voice Recorder runs on it. Would help me fix the User Account on it?

Hi, you seem to be saying that you have two Windows installations on the same PC on 2 different disks. Is that correct?
Unless you are dual booting, this would not be normal and can readily lead to difficulties.

This is much more likely the cause of this crashing.

Please try creating a new user for test purposes, log in as that user and then try your V. Recorder.

Have you managed to re-register the Voice Recorder? This should not be a difficult task to do.. commmand prompt, paste command, hit Enter.

I purchased 3 Elitebooks and installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on each one; guess what happened? Two of the notebooks died. I have one working .I can easily install SSDs from the deceased into the one HP Elitebook 8440P that is running as well as my 1985 Buick La Sabre, nearly perfect.

I appreciate the help you are providing,

I don't know what is going on. Here is what I would like to accomplish, please tell me what to do.

    I have 3 licenses for Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
I would like to run one on each hard drive and inter change the hard drives on the same PC.

i have a gateway router which attaches to the Internet. Attached to the router are my notebook, my son`s notebook, a desktop computer, a printer, and RUKO TV.

If these were the HP Elitebook 8460p, that seems to be from around 2012.
It appears to take a single disk.
    It's sad that 2 died.

I don't understand why you would wish to swap 3 similar disks with Win 10 on each as you suggest, given all the additional maintenance and the annoyance of physically swapping the disks.

Assuming the licenses are retail, not OEM, then they are transferable- e.g. to a 'new' 'bare bones' (no O/S) PC.

I would like to compare the performance of different software running on the same hardware.

On one SSD I would like to install
    • Google Chrome and Microsoft Windows Professional Pus 2010. I have a license for Office 10.
    • I would like to run the free edition of Google Drive configured to sync with my Android cell phone and transfer both videos and still images wirelessly when I say go.
    • I would like to run the free edition of Microsoft OneDrive and backup my System partition to it separately from my Data drive.
    • I would like to store my Music library on One Drive

Maybe its time to make a Clean Install.

I wonder where this user name came from. I didn’t create it.
