Good reliable Shopping Cart software (e-commerce) - anybody

    Hi folks
Any good e-commerce type of shopping cart software out there suitable for small (very small) businesses that doesn't cost a fortune and can run on web site that Windows users (primarily) can access.

Some of this stuff costs a bundle of money and has far more functionality than I need.

User should be able to browse product catalog, purchase goods, examine cart, add / remove items and then "buy" or "cancel". The "buy" bit is OK as Bank can handle that with credit card / debit card stuff. I then need to send receipt, etc. and save in a database users purchase(s) so they can repeat order if required. Traffic will be quite small so no need of mega cloud storage space etc. Handling taxes (sales tax, VAT) etc should also be a part of the software.

I'm sure there are loads of Sole traders out there especially now working from Home who must be running this type of stuff.

    Cheers

Simplest way is to go to one of the larger hosting companies, most if not all, will include an option of a basic online store.

These are usually simple to run and then also easy for the potential customers of the business to use.

The hosting company will also provide the needed backend systems for management of the store, financials, stock control, automatic data management, and backups

It depends on what you are selling.
Are there a lot of options for your items such as colors, sizes, engraving etc?
Do the items need to be shipped to the buyer?

    Hi there
mainly making custom Vinyls out of people's own music tracks and custom labels so customers music is uploaded as cd image or set of music tracks plus image of label -- then vinyl is cut (on XP stuff still !! but the studio hardware still works brilliantly) then the physical CD is shipped to customer.

Easy uncomplicated business and quite profitable --original problem was sourcing blank vinyls -- that's now solved.

Even recording to MD's -- there's still a load (who including myself) like MD's (MiniDiscs) - and using a pro recording device it doesn't have any DRM problems or the rediculous restrictions of that dreadful SONY Sonic stage stuff --that probably killed the MD format compared with unrestricted recording of CD's !!!!. The domestic MD's had all sorts of DRM problems if you wanted to make optical recordings - the PRO studio / broadcasting gear didn't have those restrictions.

I sometimes get requests also for people who want customised minidisc compilations (DRM free of course) - more than you might think so that "Good old XP system lives on " !!!!!.
