I use the internet, (or the "cloud" if you want to use that word for something that is mostly located In grey buildings and under the sea ), where and when it helps me. the same goes for most things computer related,. I use a mouse for general use but use a pen tablet for image processing where it gives me an advantage ...

I did flirt with Linux and Open source applications for a while some time ago, however, for me, the applications I need and use are not available on any OS except Windows or Mac.

For example my Image processing section of my Start menu looks like this ...

There may be some of the ancillary items that are available on Linux, some even originated there, but the majority of my go-to apps are not available, I have looked at open source alternatives, but unfortunately none are sufficiently advanced to meet my needs, (and the needs of my Bank Balance ).

    Hi there
There are loads of apps that I agree are only available on Windows -- I use Photoshop a lot for example - however I think the suggestion of splitting Windows into a "basic standard LTS one" and a "developer / extreme gaming" model is still valid -- the W2Kxx server models are mega ahead in performance and a "basic standard LTS" windows would probably suit a very large number of Windows users out there - even for complex CAD, and other imaging programs and could easily be a subset of the server models requiring very little (if any) extra maintenance. Then for gamers etc the resources released by not having so many different W10 SKU's could be used to ensure people on that platform also get top notch performance.

As far as "Start menu" is concerned - Windows doesn't have a very customisable start menu - the base GUI has been around for a long long time now - perhaps a bit more flexibility in that area is worth looking at too.

    Cheers
