    Hello
I've just discovered that all the password entried in my password program, BOX has vanished and I cant find them anywhere.
    The program is there yesterday.

I have started using Blackmagic Davinci Resolve 17 Studio Beta 9 and that crashed yesterday but is back up without an issue.

    Can you assist pls.

    Welcome to tenforums.

Do you have a backup? It rather sounds as if not..
A disk image? (The routine use of disk imaging is recommended endlessly here - e.g. Macrium reflect (free) ).

Does your password manager operate locally (your disk only) or as a cloud service (sharing information between devices?)
If the latter, you may have a copy elsewhere.

Just to be clear, do you mean both the program and the data are missing?

Assuming you mean the data is held on your disk, and you can't now locate it, and assuming you have no backup (why not?) then you're only option is data recovery e.g. Recuva (free).

But once files have been deleted, the released space is available to be overwritten through normal use of your PC.

    Is BOX
    - a traditional exe/dll program?
    - a UWP app installed via the Store?

If the latter, the data might be where such programs are installed.. but probably in an encrypted format.

What makes you think the program is no longer installed?
Check using this list to see if there's any reference to it:

As a matter of routine, if some arbitrary data loss has occurred, check your disk(s).
E.g. using Hard Disk Sentinel (SSDs too) - best instant useful appraisal right on its GUI I know of.

    Thx for the reply dalchina
    Replies are -
Do you have a backup? - About three weeks ago (Macrium Free) - too long as the program content was there yesterday.

Does your password manager operated locally - Only locally so, Yes
Just to be clear, do you mean both the program and the data are missing? - No. The program remains. The data is missing.
Data recovery e.g. Recuva (free). - thx, did that and it found files. None of it makes sense to me so I have attached it here - Saved BOX
    Is BOX a traditional exe/dll program? - Yes,exe

If the latter, the data might be where such programs are installed.. but probably in an encrypted format. - A worry then...

But once files have been deleted, the released space is available to be overwritten through normal use of your PC. - Yes of course but given it is only one day since its deletion I might stand a chance.

...if some arbitrary data loss has occurred, check your disk(s). - Yes will do. I have just purchased Disk Sentinal Pro 5.70.
Can you advise the best steps to check using this program pls.

The forum prompted you thus: - Have adhered to the request Attachment 320311

Hi, data recovery programs typically offer two types of scan e.g. standard and deep. The second takes a lot longer.

You can focus the scan on the folder where the files were to limit the time and focus the result.
It will present a list of files found and estimate of damage (how much they have been overwritten on disk).

    Recuva prompts with these options.

If your data is stored on C: there is a good chance normal use of your PC will result on some being overwritten.
Best to store personal data on a disk or partition other than C:.

Example basic scan for deleted files of my Downloads folder:

Hard Disk Sentinel- great program- initially simply install and run it- there is a portable version which you could run from a flash drive - because if your data is on C:, installing a program on C: could overwrite that data... you should see a tab per disk with a report such as
    Where did that program go?-1.png

You can explore its options and Help file later. All you want to know now is whether the drive(s) is/are good or not.

You're welcome. A screenshot of Recuva's findings would be more appropriate - and smaller- remember to specify the location of your password files when you start it searching.

And again.. if those files were on C:, if they were deleted, the more you use your PC hte higher the chance they will be overwritten.

You may have to resort to extracting a copy from your Macrium image - which you can mount, and explore in the usual way and copy the file(s) from it.

It didn't look relevant and I shouldn't be looking at your actual files. Plus I don't understand why you would upload actual files rather than a screenshot from Recuva. Plus I have no idea what file format your particular program uses. Etc..
