    WD MyCloud and Sync Software

    Hello All,

Anyone have a recommendation for software that syncs software between folders on my PC and a WD Mycloud? WD used to give us the software for free but now they have moved to a program called GoodSync. I am not really sold on it as It is a bit cumbersome and I don't think it will sync unless you run the program. Previously, if I made change to a folder on my PC, within seconds the MyCloud would update with the change.

I have Acronis and I use it for backup but it does not have a sync feature whereby I am syncing from a folder on my PC to a NAS. It does allow synch between one PC and another.

    Thanks, Bill

I'd check with the WD Community

BTW, I have the WD 4-Bay diskless NAS PR4100 with 4 WD Red Drives running in RAID 0. I've not needed to sync any files as I simply use it for back and streaming. In fact I don't run any of WD's software on my PC since I find the new software tends to crash on my system.

Anyway give the WD forums a try. They're usually pretty good at answering questions there. I'm also a registered member there.

    Good luck.

I've heard Duplacti works with cloud storage (OneDrive, Google Drive, ... and a couple of others I can't remember).

FWIW, not a big fan of direct backup to the cloud, always like to back up locally, then backup that data to the cloud. Good safety valve to stop cloud "reverse" synching and deleting original files (Yes OneDrive, I'm talking about you !!!)

Yeah, but the issue is Western Digital basically only wants you to use their software for their MyCloud NAS where syncing is concerned. Here's but one thread - MyCloud Home and OneDrive - does it work?

As for "cloud" backups, in addition to my NAS, I use Carbonite's Online backup service. The one thing I love about Carbonite's service is once you get the initial files uploaded you can (I do) set to continuously monitor and backup your files or changes as needed. Basically set it and forget it. You can also go as far back as 30 days for an old file should you need it.

And yes, I also do local backups using Acronis. It works for me, and I've used it a few times to recover and restore files.

At any rate, the OP can check the WD forums to see what they suggest for syncing. As I said, I don't sync and as the OP noted the software that was somewhat decent has now been replace with "GoodSync"
