Weird app running in background while windows starts

Hi everybody nice to meet you,

Please help me figuring out this weird issue I have with windows 10 home X64 ver 20h2 startup.

I bought a new pc two weeks ago and installed all the programs, office 365 personal (bought full price key as I did for my windows 10 home) and updates needed. Everything went fine up until 2 days ago when I noticed that I get a weird tiny blue line down in the task bar for 1 sec each time when my windows starts.

It shows up and disappears immediately. I attached a screenshot from startup.

I used Microsoft’s help and they told me it’s probably some background program running and guided me to delete tmp and prefetch files as well as to run sfc scan that fixed some files with yet with no effect on my issue.

I’m very cautious user and didn’t click any suspicious link since I bought the new comp. I have not noticed any unregular popup/notification and my pc runs fast and so the windows startup. I use Avira free with no virus results in complete system scan and just for sure run also Malewarebytes and Hitman pro scans with no threat results.

Microsoft didn’t know why this background program/start up issue occurs and recommend reinstalling Windows.
Is this really necessary? Is it a benign system setting bug or rather a sign of a malware?

Maybe this has something to do with the last important Windows update (KB4598299) that was automatically installed in my pc just 2 days ago?

I tried also to install the quality update as well (KB4598291) but it did not help. I have found on google that these updates caused some issues but didn’t find anything on my specific problem that could be not related to the update.

I would welcome any idea to fix the issue.

    Thanks in advance,
    Shachar

Hello @Shachar , welcome to Ten Forums

    1. Check Task Manager > Startup tab, and see if that helps.
    2. Check Control Panel > Programs & Features, and see if there's anything strange in there.

    Thanks for your reply,
I have done these things of-course. All programs and startup apps are familiar and legit
(searched in google for each manufc./system app I didn't know before. They're all fine)..

Also tried to disable all startup apps and the issue was still there..

Might want to check with ASUS. Maybe it's a utility of theirs.

What's really strange, is that hovering the mouse over it...should give you a popup, that should help identify it.

A Blue line in the taskbar is usually under an App signifying that it is open. Just above the line, in that blackspot, Right click and choose Properties. This will tell you the Path of the app to know what it is or to Close it.

Maybe w/e it is has a black or very dark icon.

Another thing to check would be Event Viewer > Information.
Note the time the blue line appears, and see if you can match it with something in Event Viewer.

It's just for a sec.. when I right click it's like I do it on any other random spot in the taskbar..
Just the normal right click taskbar menu..

I changed to light mode and there is still no icon above the blue line..

Checked now the information section in the summery of event viewer but don't know what to look for..
"in the last hour" I see many events that I did or are part of a normal windows logon and ect.
    can't recognize problems..
    What should I do

Note the "exact" time that blue line appears. Then look for that "exact" time in Event Viewer.

If worse comes to worst, you can just re-install Windows 10.
IF you decide to do that... make sure you download the motherboard drivers and the vid card driver, to a USB stick or something, before you do it.

Also... when installing Windows 10, unhook the internet, and all drives except the one you are installing Windows 10 on.
When Windows 10 is installed, install the motherboard drivers, then the vid card driver.

THEN you can hook up the other drives and the internet.
