    Where is My App? HEVC

I bought an HEVC extension, something or other, it asks for my MS password, enter it, then asks again and says it's wrong.

I mean, I bought it, what do I have to do to use it?

I bought it using my home email address account so I could run it thru my PayPal w/o issue. I'm on my 5 year old PC at work though. Could they be asking for a password from this work PC that I never set because I just don't care who looks at it?

I have clients emailing HEIC pics and keep telling them, like an idiot, that I can't view them.

If they are looking for a Microsoft password then this is the password that you use with your Microsoft Account, This would normally be a Microsoft Outlook Email Address, but could be a 3rd party one.

I cannot see any reason why a 3rd party seller would require this or even Know it enough to use it - I suspect that the software may be a scam, although I cannot prove anything ...

However if you are looking for a way to view Images from recent Iphones then this is available Free of Charge on Windows 7 Up though Is not a standard feature ...

The system I personally use is the Free Licence (non Business Use), of this software Open HEIC files on Windows which works with the Built In photos app in Windows and also adds Thumbnail support in Windows File Explorer

    Thanks for the link.
It worked opening the pics with Photo Viewer, but cannot rotate.
Rotate arrows and right click rotates are greyed out.

The app I bought is from the MS store.
I'd still like to get this app I paid for running.
MS is such a PITA. If I pay for something so simple as this, why can't it just be a clickety click to install on my computer?
It blows me away, the nonsense I see from them.

Store apps need a Microsoft ID to work, It's I think an attempt at security, understandable, but not a great help if you get caught out by it.

When you ordered the software, you would have to have entered a valid Microsoft ID, This ID (email) is the one that the software is asking for, you will also likely need to provide the password for that ID / Email to activate the software

There are free versions available from the MS store, see this Windows Central guide, see if it helps you.

    Thanks.

It was asking for the password on my work computer which did not exist. Had to create one to authorize signing off this PC and using my personal MS account here at work.

So, all this got me to the point where I could go to my account online and add device. Only then could I download my purchase.

I uninstalled the one mentioned earlier in this thread as this is a business PC.

Now, this MS program?/extension? whatever it is has taken over and I cannot use the wonderful feature of Livemail: "View Slideshow"

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/hevc-video-extensions/9nmzlz57r3t7?activetab=pivotverviewtab

Oh gawwddd.....here we go again. Have to go back to the email and open one pic at a time.

    Thanks.
I believe they were free at the time of older threads but they started charging.
I have no problem about free or not, just the fact that I pay for something and it's such a pain to get installed.

And then, it screws up my slideshow....well, them's fightin' words right there.

And now when I restarted my PC, I had to enter password, and I HAD to make a PIN number.... jeez.....

Now, how to get my all important slideshow working in my Livemail?

If you see the Windows Central guide mentions you need to be signed in on a MS account to get the extensions for free, this still works even now.
The paid for versions I believe are not supplied by MS direct as OS extensions but are 3rd party supplied versions, I could be wrong about that.
Both the HECV and HEIF are codecs that can be used by other apps written to look for and utilise additional codecs to handle display/ encoding/ decoding, they will not launch as applications by themselves.
If you are having issues opening files supported by these codecs it is possible the application you are using cannot properly utilise the codecs.
Are you getting any error messages?

    Thanks.

No errors. It works now, HEIC's are opening, just lost my "view slideshow" on my email.
I believe that was Photo Gallery and now can only open single pics with Photos.
That's what I get for using outdated email, I guess.

I'm certain it's MS. You can see it's their site.
Yes, I know they don't launch, just help to open pics, whatever.
I do have it running now. Spent two hours trying to get there. Finally got the computer to lite up without using a password.
Wow.....how do you guys do it and learn so much about these systems?
    I find it so irritating.

Here's the PayPal payment. MS, Canada

Ok, glad you have things working (or almost?), the payment is done through the MS Store, similar to the Apple App Store I think, and the actual developers get paid by MS, less their cut (15% or so).
In the apps description it should list the publisher (originator) of the app, so you can check, like this screen grab.

The HEVC and HEIC codecs I installed (about 4 months ago) were both free and published by MS under the description "Tools and Utilities", and still get regular updates, there may be a paid for version also published by MS that I am unaware of.
