Decent (Ad Free) Bit Torrent client for Windows

    Hi folks

Looking for a decent Bit torrent client for windows (ad free please) comparable to deluge on Linux.
There's plenty of legit reasons to use torrent sites -- I'm downloading latest iso of arch linux -- absolutely nothing wrong !!! -- a lot of software suppliers (including Ms itself) could reduce a load on their servers by using torrent distributions.

However when on Windows seems the free bit torrent clients are riddled with ads, you have to register somewhere etc etc -- why should I have to register for open source software !!!!!!!!

Deluge has a nice clean interface, simple to use, magnet links no prob etc etc. Anybody got a decent Windows alternative.

    µTorrent v1.8.2 - it's old, it's outdated, but it's the best.

    Hi there
    Thanks

Marking as soved -- works OK -- tested on a VM -- still not as fast as Deluge but that might be because of the VM virtual NIC !!! but was OK so job done !!!

I want to suggest Qbittorrent for windows, this client is very stable, gets regular updates and has a very clearn UI, no ads or other unnecessary clutter, all in all a very good torrentclient for windows :)

There are a few settings that can have some impact on download speeds. Also, for testing purposes like this particular one, maybe running a full-fledged VM shoud not actually be needed now because the latest open source Sandboxie appears like it could already suffice.

It certainly is fast, but because the download speed often is limited by how many people are seeding, torrent clients can tend to have to keep running in the background for prolonged periods of time to complete those slowest downloads so, I prefer to choose the most lightweight (system resources consumption profile) solution that also is perfectly stable, and that doesn't make the cooling fan get loud while I am trying to listen to nice quality stuff through a good pair of big floorstanding speakers.

Here's my Preferences settings... I get absolute full speed for my connection, with these.

On a 100/100 connection I get the full 12.xMB/s with these settings.

Note: Screenshot taken in Windows 7, but works the same in Win 10.

Actually there doesn't have to be many peers connected to get really high speeds like i got when i downloaded this ubuntu-20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso just a few min ago from here
    Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa)
What you need is a good connection to the peers, and obviously you need to have high bandwith.
(And i have my vpn active when downloading this iso)

If you download torrents and you get crappy speeds let's say you can't even hit 1Mbit/s it possible that you need to open ports in the router / client, but it could also be because the peers are snubbing you,
    like one is doing here.
You see, the flags in a client has huge meaning, and determines among other things the speeds you get from a peer.

As for the weight of qbittorrent, it does not drain much, granted i don't really download much but i have it enable and active so i can use it whenever i want.
And this is what the client is using after staying online for 3 months.

Now when it comes to the client you like, it has CVE, and it's possible to execute arbitrary code and conduct DLL hijacking attacks, so i would think twice before using it, just saying 😊

    @xTL

Access Complexity Medium (The access conditions are somewhat specialized. Some preconditions must be satistified to exploit)
CVE-2010-3129 : Untrusted search path vulnerability in uTorrent 2.0.3 and earlier allows local users, and possibly remote attackers, to

Two things happened starting with version 2.04. They started putting a limiter on the download speed if your DL/UL ratio was less than 1.0 and they started with ads.

Yes i read that, and i would not use a program in my system that has that kind of vulnerability.
If it's ignored and forgotten at a time someone might figure out how to abuse it and cause issues for people,
I rather use a different program that does not have that kind of vulnerability or any vulnerability.

You do know there are many clients that's better than utorrent nowadays yes?

    I haven't found... any.
I haven't had ANY issues with Utorrent, and I don't have the registry entry they claim is required for UT to be vulnerable.

    uTorrent is installed - ovalrg.mitre.oval:def:7343

You always need to read the fine print. Ads generate millions of dollars. This could possibly be a motive for a scare tactic like the one we are discussing.

    Here's a 2nd opinion...

Why you must switch from uTorrent immediately and to what
