Actually there doesn't have to be many peers connected to get really high speeds like i got when i downloaded this ubuntu-20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso just a few min ago from here
    Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa)
What you need is a good connection to the peers, and obviously you need to have high bandwith.
(And i have my vpn active when downloading this iso)
    Attachment 314012

If you download torrents and you get crappy speeds let's say you can't even hit 1Mbit/s it possible that you need to open ports in the router / client, but it could also be because the peers are snubbing you,
    like one is doing here.
You see, the flags in a client has huge meaning, and determines among other things the speeds you get from a peer.
    Attachment 314009

As for the weight of qbittorrent, it does not drain much, granted i don't really download much but i have it enable and active so i can use it whenever i want.
And this is what the client is using after staying online for 3 months.
    Attachment 314011

Now when it comes to the client you like, it has CVE, and it's possible to execute arbitrary code and conduct DLL hijacking attacks, so i would think twice before using it, just saying 
Utorrent Utorrent 1.8.2 : Related security vulnerabilities
Thanks, but I don't have speed issues with torrent downloads excepting only when the torrent in question is being uploaded by not many users all of whom are bandlimited severely. I don't use anything related to Linux because I concur with this post completely, and, as for the safety of µTorrent 1.8.2, the code execution vulnerability that you mention doesn't exist if the dll files being attacked are not located in the same folder as a .torrent or .btsearch file so it only affects those who are stupid enough to put a downloaded torrent file in the installation folder.

    I haven't found... any.
I haven't had ANY issues with Utorrent, and I don't have the registry entry they claim is required for UT to be vulnerable.

    uTorrent is installed - ovalrg.mitre.oval:def:7343

You always need to read the fine print. Ads generate millions of dollars. This could possibly be a motive for a scare tactic like the one we are discussing.

I highly doubt that cvedetails.com would state false information about cve's.
No what they write on their site is accurate.
Any particular reason you're hanging on to a client that was release around 2008?
I'm thinking nostalgia? But if the client works fine for you, then keep it i guess?
Just saying you could be sitting with a more secure client, equal speeds without ads or clutter in ui,
like i said, qbittorrent is very clean, stable and secure.

See my edit. The WinAero website, actually recommends the older versions.

On a side note... I've been using UTorrent 1.8.0 for 12 years, w/o issue.

Yeah i saw the link :)
However if you ask me you, one should move on from utorrent, it's glory days are past, there are better clients available.

I read what Mark Phelps wrote, and i agree with him on some points, but hey let's be real here, no software is free from issues, windows nor linux, mac isn't even a computer,
    (mac = maybe a computer) kidding 😋

I for one do not have issues in windows or my linux OS installations, so i can't really relate.
Everything is very stable for me.

If you wanna stick to the old client version of utorrent it's fine since it's up to you.
I for one prefer to have no vulnerabilities in my programs...

I haven't found any. I'm not saying anyone should move to UT 1.8.0
I'm just inserting a few facts I know... into this discussion.

I did check your links as well. And, as I mentioned... I don't have the registry entry that leads to the vulnerability.
On top of everything else, I'm a VERY paranoid person.

    Then you haven't really looked.
rTorrent, qBittorrent, deluge, all better then uTorrent in my opinion.

Well paranoia, is basically mistrust right..(among other things) so logically speaking you shouldn't trust the old version of utorrent...

I for one care about having a secure system hence is why i would never have programs installed that has connection to cve's

Same here... no issues, having been using 1.8.2 for what seems like it could be almost a whole decade. And, being super paranoid is why I brought up Sandboxie in an earlier post, anyway in the first place, AND there's still always Acronis if that one fails.

P.S. - Even if you do have the registry entry, like I previously said it still doesn't make you vulnerable until you decide to put a torrent file that you downloaded from some shady website in the installation folder of µTorrent, which no smart person does.
