    Software for clone HDD

    Windows version 1909 (build 18363 1256)

    Good morning

I am looking for software that can clone my HDD to USB external HDD. (I see there is a lot of them) but I need one that if my laptop HDD crash, I can just put the USB external HDD in and Clone it back to the laptop HDD.
If there is a free one it would be good

Hope you can understand what I need.

Hendrikbez hello and Happy New Year ,

Many of us here using MR for backups and cloning ....
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

I've never used it myself for cloning as I use Samsung Data Migration since I have Samsung SSDs.

There are videos on YouTube that can guide you with using MR to clone.

Based on your description, imaging may be a better idea than cloning.

    Macrium can do both.

    Good point.
    @Hendrikbez,
We make periodic backups/MR images so that if we get a bad update or our drives break, etc, we can restore the image to the same or a new drive depending on the situation.

You would make an image of ALL partitions on the internal HDD while it was working well.

You would save that image on the external USB HDD.

If your internal HDD failed, you would buy a new HDD and then restore the image from the external USB HDD to the new internal HDD.

    What @ignatzatsonic said.

Also you should make a MR bootable rescue USB from the MR app you install to your PC. If the HDD dies, you boot from the MR USB and restore your HDD image to your new HDD/SSD from the external USB drive.
