“Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”

    Hello everyone!

    I use Windows 10 home

Whenever I install some new software, the window appears, where I get asked the following:
“Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”

    1)
Where can I see a list, with all the apps that has been granted access?

    2)
What parts of my system does the app get access to?

    3)
The whole drive with all my data?

Thank you in advance for replying

    Best regards

That's from UAC - a protection measure against possible viruses or rogue programs that tries to ensure you have control of what runs.

    (1) - as you're talking about the installation process, that's all installed programs.

(2,3) - depends on the program and its function, and the permissions granted to it.

You will see the same UAC prompt when you try to run the following batch scripts, which are not programs/apps/software and will not install anything.

Make sure to right click on the file(s) you download, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file or extract it, then it may not install correctly.

To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, follow the guide in this thread:

Just to add to the above => How to Disable Downloaded Files from being Blocked in Windows

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you everyone for replying

I have not experienced any issues with installing any downloaded software

Just wanted to know, what granting the app access means and includes?

Is the granted access to the app permanent?
    It is only about rights?
Can the app change and upload / steal my data and files?

    Thank you for your reply.

I believe I've already answered this.

    a. Depends on what the program is.
    b. Depends if you install it as all users or single user.
    c. Many programs cause UAC to prompt you to confirm permisssion.

Impossible to be completely general- there are many types of programs.

The granted access is not permanent. That is why an elevated shortcut is needed.

    a. Depends on what the program is.
I have mainly / only installed games, antivirus and antimalware software.

    b. Depends if you install it as all users or single user.
My user is admin. Which is the same as having access to all files?

Would just be nice to know, wether this access is only restricted to the installation folder, or my whole drive with all my data?

How long is the access granted / valid? Until the software is installed? Until restart of PC?

I assume that the access will be terminated when the installation has finished as long as the software has not been run.
Each time when you run the software, you will see the same UAC prompt.
