Search showing old, deleted apps and not showing newly installed apps

The search shows old and uninstalled apps but not the newly installed apps, they are present in the start menu but don't come in search. I manually added the start menu folder AGAIN to the Windows indexing location and rebuilt the index but it still doesn't work. Running search and index troubleshooter says "Windows search is not working" and when I try the repair as an administrator, nothing happens.
    I'm using Windows 10 Pro 2004 Build 19041.685

Hi, when did search stop working? What happened before that?

Basics: check your disk (Crystal Diskinfo, Hard Disk Sentinel - trial- SSDs too; run chkdsk c: /scan from an admin command or powershell prompt, then similarly run SFC /SCANNOW.

    The try
Use Indexer Diagnostics App for Windows Search Issues in Windows 10

when I try the repair as an administrator,
    - which repair? Screenshot to explain please.

    Try
Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10
    Option 3

Try Tweaking.com's free repair tool - only use repairs likely to be appropriate e.g. 25,26

If still no luck, create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user, and see if search works.

I don't quite remember when it stopped working because I never really noticed it.
CHKDSK says there are no problems in both of my drives (C:, an SSD and D:, an HDD)

The indexer diagnostic app is not available on the MS store

This is the troubleshooter and running it as admin fixes nothing

I tried rebuilding and resetting the index but it doesn't work.

Should I still try tweaking.com's repair tool?

I tried rebuilding and resetting the index but it doesn't work.
    - do you mean the process of rebuilding and resetting failed, or that it completed but had no effect?

    Yes, continue with those steps.

There's one more beyond the new user check, dependent on the outcome of that.

Yes, it completed but did nothing

Okay, I'll try and let you know.

Hi there, sorry for the super late reply. I used tweaking.com's tool and it didn't fix my search issue. Also, happy new year!

Thanks, and to you. My New Year resolutions: a. Delete 2020; b. Hibernate (most of us are confined to homes except for essentials, and the virus is spreading rapidly).

Unfortunately as you've deleted the index, rebuilt it, tried repairs, I have no more ideas. I can't imagine what's going on. Perhaps someone else can help.

I've never liked Windows search. Not in any version of Windows.

Lately I've been using Swift Search. It's available free online. It's very fast.
