you must do before a clean install. Without clean install I tried checked / unchecked and it didn't work.

I run CCleaner as a standalone on D: so there wasn't any files on C: when I did the install.

Running version 5.75.8238 and "Launch the CCleaner app each time the computer starts" is unchecked.
Did you also check the areas in "Startup" that I mentioned?

still try an uninstallation with revo uninstaller and clean install.Disable "keep ccleaner updated automaticaly", "enable smart cleaning" and "tell me when they are junk files to clean".

Just now playing with the options of ccleaner and I got the icon problem in the system tray. I did like the link I gave in my post 6 and it's resolved.

Here is what happened: I ran shellbag_analyzer_cleaner.exe which cleaned up MRU in the registry which in turn messed up other things, consequently I had to restore the image and of course that required some updating.

No one told you to use this software. I don't know him myself.

Solution is to use CCleaner.ini file and set "Monitoring=0". After doing so, reran shellbag_analyzer_cleaner.exe and everything is fine including 568 items out of the registry.

Or just open CCleaner and go to Tools/Startup/Windows tab and delete the HKLM:Run entry for it.

Problem with their software starting up solved by using their software to nuke it from startup.

Don't have that entry, I run CCleaner as a standalone, it is not installed.
