    Default Onenote in start menu

    Hello,

I recently reinstalled Windows 10 Pro (20H2) and by default, Onenote appears in the start menu. However, when I install my Office 2016 (Home and Student) I end up having (2) Onenote entries in the start menu. Please see picture below.

I read that "Onenote for Windows 10" comes with Windows 10, but this just says "Onenote." Can someone please explain the difference between the two. For me, I don't like having to apps in the start menu that say exaclty the same thing. Therefore, I need some assistance changing the name or removing one of them.

    Thanks

The one that's installed with Office is old. The one installed with Windows is newer and is automatically updated. In fact Microsoft prefers you use the Windows version. It's the version I'm using and have no issues.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: You can also see my post here explaining the difference - Problems with OneNote 2013

    Hello @leosantare,

You could remove the one that is not needed [ used ]. Have a look at this and see if it helps . . .

    I don't understand.

Shouldn't the OneNote that comes with Windows 10 be titled "OneNote for Windows 10?"
Shouldn't the OneNote that comes with Office 2016 (Home and Student) be titled "OneNote 2016?"

I purchased Office 2016 (Home and Student) about 2 years ago and barely used it yet. From what I remember, when I first installed it the apps in the start menu were titled,
    Excel 2016
    PowerPoint 2016
    OneNote 2016
    Word 2016

However, now all (4) apps are missing the 2016 in the title?

Does Office 2019 (Home and Student) include OneNote and if so will it be titled OneNote or OneNote 2019?

Please someone clarify this for me.

You'd have to ask Microsoft why the named the way they did.

As for the year next to each icon, I don't remember that and it certainly isn't the case for Office 365. I just remember the icons being in the Start menu. Regardless, the missing year has no effect how Office runs. And you can always tell what version of Office you have by opening an Office app, clicking File, and clicking Office Account

That said, you are correct that OneNote from Office was named 2016 at one time.

And do be aware that one of the twice-yearly Version Upgrades may return OneNote for Windows if it has been removed.

Does anyone out there have Office 2019 (Home and Student)?

If so, is OneNote included and if so will it be titled OneNote or OneNote 2019 in the start menu?

I am using Microsoft 365, the computer was bought in August this year. There is only ONE Note for Windows 10, no one Note for Office in the start menu.
