    New DVD/CD - Not Running

DVD/CD player acting up so got a new one, an ASUS DRW-24D5MT 48 x or whatever, Its listed in devices, its not listed in File Explorer, and will not run. I went to ASUS and installed driver for this model, still nothing. Sys Info says driver not available. Asus told me to do scannow - no difference. Put DVD in, starts to run then stops, same for a CD.

    Win 10 Home x 64 H20 19041.vb_release. 19206-1406

Also USB CD/DVD player (used for tablet) not working in pc either.

First check the bios ,see if it it is listed as a startup device.
if not then the mainboard is not recognizing it and you Should check the cables and connections.
Forget devices, open the Device Manager and see if it is there, check properties
un check "turn off this device to save power" (just for now)
    also check for any errors.
second step if all appears good is to delete the dvd in the Device Manager with the drivers.
reboot and see if it shows.

Listed by name in Device manager
    NOT listed in File Explorer
Does not load but does have power etc
scannow reports corrupted files which it says it cannot fix. It also told me to check logs at a psecifc location, so I did, its all gobbledegoog and nothing in plain english to say 'this is not present' etc
    Uninstalled drivers and re installed
rebooting now to see if it accepts drives.
    nope, nothing.

The last thing I want to do is repair/reset windows, so many items to re install it would take eons x 3 users.

Whenever sfc reports it can't fix something , You need to run
    Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
from a elevated command prompt and then sfc again.
may have nothing to do with your detection problem but should fix
    any other system issue.

Have you checked the Disk Manager to see if it is there?

Yes, checked Disc Manager, not there.

running dism now,at present hovering/working/ paused at 62.3%

you said elevated admin, so I lifted the pc up!!!

OK both report success. Scannow reports found problems and successfully repaired them.

    Rebooting

Nothing. I tried running media player, and 'burn' - it just said to turn the 'device' on.

We have solved the corrupt files prob but not the CD.
Earlier you mentioned - un check "turn off this device to save power" - but I cannot find the path ................... all I found in properties was this even though I KNOW I installed correct Asus E Green Drivers for the correct model

properties also reports that drivers are Microsoft not Asus????

I have informed Asus about all this incl screenshot, tick tick tick ....

    Did you check the bios?

and the power and data cables and connections both ends?

You could check the Asus site for updated drivers but that's along shot.

I do not have dvd region in the properties.
power is fully functional, drive starts when disc inserted, then nothing.Latest Asus drivers have been in saince installed, windows does not see them, all it reports is MS driver.
