Disable ALL OneDrive notifications, remove from taskbar

    Hi all,

I need some help. I want to disable ALL OneDrive notifications and remove it from my taskbar. I DO NOT want any of OneDrive notifications. I do want to keep it doing what it's supposed to, I just don't want any notifications or have it in my taskbar.

After searching the forum, I did not see the exact answer for what I need. AND the link below to a tutorial, DID NOT work for me. And of course I've tried the right click, settings, and un-clicked Notifications and also tried to remove it from the settings for the taskbar. Little nuances like that just drive me nuts. LOL

    I'm running Windows 10 ver 1909. thanks!

What is it you think it's supposed to be doing (apart from being another classic annoying not-asked-for in-your-face Microsoft add-on) ... or better still, what is it you want it to be doing?

I've uninstalled OneDrive completely because of its lack of ability to be controlled and avoid the similar situations to yourself. Fiddle around with it, get it right for what YOU want, and Woofter!, next (major) update MS resets it back to to how it wants it.

However, I still use OneDrive for file storage and movements - I just do it all manually (uploading/downloading) directly to/from/through my account on the outlook.com website. A few more clicks, but at least I have control over what comes and goes, not what MS want, or think I need.

A word of caution - OneDrive (and others like Google Drive, etc) should not be used a the "prime" destination of backups. They are excellent services for the sharing of files (between different devices), but not as the prime option for backup.

On what basis do you say Onedrive should not be used as the prime option for backup?

Data stored to onedrive is very reliably backed up on onedrive as MS will have multiple backups in event of server failure.

... and then, one day, no internet access, and .....?

Use it as backup if you must, just not the prime destination. I always have a hard copy backup (native format, imaged, etc)

Besides, there are better dedicated, specially designed "cloud" services for backup (the like of Crashplan, etc)

reply thread: Disable ALL OneDrive notifications, remove from taskbar

    idgat,

That's a good idea. I just got this computer the other day. A friend built it for me and I'm going through the pain of re-setting up my preferences.

I've never used OneDrive either so I could just uninstall.

Thanks so much for the suggestion!!! Duh!! LOL

Hell, I have internet access by a variety of ways. The point about a backup is if the backup is reliable.

A backup drive could fail just as easily (indeed more likely).

You are just giving an opinion NOT a fact.

The choice depends entirely on a users needs!

Which is why a user should never rely on one single option as a backup ... which many users do, simply because OneDrive came installed, setup and functioning by default (The "It's-there-so-I-must-have-to-use-it" syndrome).

Advice and/or options, rather than opinion

As long as a user realises that there is a choice/other options. And that's what advice is for.

Then be even handed, and point out pros and cons.

Advice should be based on sound reasoning.

Apart from minor point that internet access may not available (very rare) at the point you might need access to the backup, you have not provided a shred of evidence why cloud backup should not be your primary backup.

If all you do is backup photos, then it is perfect. If you backup large videos, then it is less convenient.

    It is all about context.

Advice like yours is meaningless without proper context and explanation.

So that is my last word on the subject!

I find that task difficult, given the way MS impose OneDrive onto the unsuspecting/unknowing user ....
