Whatsapp will only load once after booting

Apologies if this is not an appropriate place for this but Whatsapp is an App!
Windows 10 - latest download.

Earlier today whist indulging in some graphic editing of a large file I had a BSOD. It's not that I am querying; it is the result it had after re-booting.
I needed to play an MP3 file - it wouldn't play but it would play on Audacity where I had produced it. It was the resulting MP3 that wouldn't play. I tested with other apps and found that none worked and Media Player wasn't working either so none of the CDs I have on my PC would play (for convenience - I own the originals!).
The other problem I found was that Whatsapp wouldn't load.
I re-booted (powered down) and since then Media Player and other players all work fine and can be opened and shut down without issue.
However WhatsApp won't oblige. Post re-booting it loads and works. Close down and try and re-load and it won't load. I have to reboot first.
I have tried reinstalling over existing installation, uninstalling and re-installing afresh, but neither solve problem.
I am at a loss as to where to look for possible causes next!

Now that is weird. You're right.
Having closed it down after a successful load it won't re-load as described in my original post. Checking Task Manager I find 3 copies there but closing just one, closes all three.
Using Alt_Del to try and tab to them doesn't show them. Once they are closed I can re-load as before.
That gives me a working solution, which is the important thing as it is currently my families main means of communication in lockdown, but I don't understand why it suddenly won't close when I click on X. It did before.

Seems a reasonable explanation though puzzling that it has just started out of the blue when nothing in my PC has changed (as far as I know). Also I would have thought WhatsApp would be better behaved than that!

Tactfulcactus - if it's any further help, pending a more elegant solution, I have created a pinned link on my taskbar to the installation file of WhatsApp. Now if I click on that to reload WhatsApp it reinstalls the app over the original. A bit slower than loading a proper working version, but faster than going to Task Manger to unload the app there first.

I had the same problem - also just started to experience this in the last 48 hours.

Here is my simple solution. I created a command file and placed it on my desktop. The file is named "KillWhatsapp.cmd" and it contains a single line of text that I edited in Notepad. The line is:

taskkill /F /IM whatsapp.exe

This simply forces the WhatsApp program out of memory so that it is cleared down and can be re-launched without you having to reboot the machine. It is just an automatic way of opening the task manager, scrolling down to find WhatsApp and then using the "End Task" button. And it is much quicker!
