Problem with Win 10 Photos app

    Hi
    I have, with some difficulty, managed to load Adobe Photoshop CS4 onto a new computer with Windows 10;
irritatingly, Windows 10 will not let me change .jpg as the default file extn to Photoshop from the Photos app. Strangely, it will allow .tiff and .tif to be allocated to Photoshop, but will not budge on .jpeg. I have tried all the obvious routes through Win 10 Default Apps, Default File extns and Control Panel.

Win 10 is version 2004 (OS Build 19041.508)
    Can any one help, please

    Many Thanks
    Peter

but will not budge on .jpeg.
Hi, could you clarify this please? For example, is CS4 offered as an option here..

    or here (Open With)?

Or do you mean you can select it, but the default doesn't change?

You could try using Default Programs Editor to make the change:

I'm sorry - you don't seem to have read my submission in full

It doesn't work with all the obvious Win10 ways - that's why I have submitted the query

One not quite so obvious way. Right-click on any .jpeg and click on Open with > Choose another app. Tick the 'Always use this app....' box then pick your choice from the list.

If it isn't there, scroll down and click 'More apps'....

...and if it's not there either click 'Look for another app on this PC' and browse until you find the .exe for your app.

Thank you for your reply. I did. No more help from me, sorry.

You did not mention Open With

I've given you the Default Programs Editor. That's far from standard.

You did not answer my question. I will only wish you good luck.

Not unusual for defaults to be "denied" through a program's settings, and the user has to go through Windows 10 default apps options.

Does PShop CS4 do .jpeg ... ?? Tried opening it from within CS4 (File > Open ...)

Not obvious to us because we don't know which ones you did. Need to elucidate.

Try from File/Windows Explorer > right click on file > Open with ... > Choose another app > More apps (if CS not listed) > (if CS4 still not listed) > Look for another app on this PC > navigate to CS4 exe file.
