I have an oddity (what's new it's 10 after all)

Can someone please tell me why the results of my SSD benchmark test have dropped so dramatically?

The higher results are typical of having RAPID mode turned on in 'Performance Optimization'. As Cliff S says, the lower results are normal maximum SATA speeds. RAPID mode requires Samsung Magician to be running.

I tried RAPID on my EVO 860, but decided on balance to leave it turned off. My Samsung Magician showed the same speed difference as yours.

You were correct in saying Magician, RAPID needs Magician to be be running in the background for it to work.

Glad to hear it's solved. I wouldn't have said that was the most obvious first thing to check, so don't feel so 'dumb' about it.
