How can I view XviD file in VLC

Downloaded two video converters being: freemake and wondershare uniconverter both advertised as 'free' but since uninstalled as even the trial versions did not convert the video in XviD to MP4 (or TV quality).

So still can't open this file in VLC media player (Vers 3.0.11 Vetinari)

VLC: Official site - Free multimedia solutions for all OS! - VideoLAN says that VLC does play XviD but doesn't tell me how.

    Any suggestions?

    Try
How to Install Xvid Codec Manually | Leawo Tutorial Center

    (found with a simple search).

    Xvid codecs are readily obtainable.

However others say they can play these without additional codecs...

XVID File - What is it and how do I open it?
    - doesn't happen to mention vlc player.

Hello dalchina, thanks for that lead.

    - - - Updated - - -

Finally I give up. Have downloaded and installed L-Lite Codec; have converted xvid file to MP4 online; inter alia
Result is I can't get past the initial window telling me to check the readme txt (which I've discovered are not trustworthy)
So I guess I just have to wait until there is a standard version of the xvid file.

Can't do any more, so thanks to all who have read the post.

There are other players.. and xvid may not be entirely standard - although it's not a container.
And converters as you say. I don't have any such files to play with.
