Burning CD, unable to view/save track listing

Hi, I joined up to ask this question.

I've burned several CD-R's and RW's until now, but I've never been able to copy the track listing onto the CD.
After checking some settings, most media players on multiple PC's can read the song and artist names, but not regular 'physical' CD players.
Like the ones that have a small digital screen displaying the album info directly as it is being played.
I think this specific information correlates to the data read on the PC, in the drive. So the tracks listed there must be how any other device may read the song names. These are usually called Track01, Track02, etc, and I can't seem to change it, even though the same songs (same burned CD) are easily read by Windows Media Player and VLC Player.
It even displays the production date (of either the CD or the PC) as 'last modified' date, which is pretty taunting.

Do they read some sort of sync file to translate the track names? Or am I missing a specific operation?

I've used multiple burning programs, and the latest one is Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE.
The problem is not within the diversity of these programs, I reckon.

    Thank you for you time.

I do a lot of audio CD burning for my recording studio clients. I use Nero BurningROM program. I use the "Disc At Once" (DAO) option and it allows burning the disc title, song titles and artist name on the audio CD's. I think some other burning programs have the "DAO" option when burning.

However, I find some media programs will read and display the song titles and others won't.

Basically some CD players and Media Players cannot use the extension to the CD Red book standard, in this case it is CD Text.

Whilst a lot of Burning software can add CD Text to a disc that does not mean a particular CD Player/Media player can read it.

    Hi there

Nero Burning ROM will handle pretty well any audio format

I use it a lot to burn flac files to "an image file " a NERO .nrg file using the Image Recorder feature in NERO --then use an old program called alcohol 52% to mount the .nrg file which windows sees an an audio cd - then use an old XP (MD simple burner -- MD = MiniDisc) program to copy the CD to a Minidisc using a pro studio quality MD deck (hence no DRM optical digital copy restrictions) .

Burning to an image file and then mounting to the virtual audio cd speeds up the process a zillion times and no probs with "Buffer over / Under-runs" either !!!!!

I need the alcohol 52% virtual mounter as XP unlike W10 doesn't have a Virtual CD mounter.

I'm doing this all on a Windows XP Virtual Machine -- track info then comes from Gracenote CDDB if the flac files were from an original Audio Disc - or can use things like Mp3vtag to tag the files before burning to the MD. Gracenote is best for classical music - other CDDB data bases are also out there for other types of music for decent track tagging too.

BTW you need to set the USB option to USB2.0 compatability in the XP's virtual machine configuration - not 3.1 otherwise the MD deck isn't detected -- (If running on a Linux Host also start the usb arbitration service on the host or you can't attach USB devices to the VM. !!). You can still connect the hardware to USB 3 ports of course.

Now for the original poster - once you've got your image file tagged - simply burn again (copy) it again with Nero to a physical CD - chances are you might not even need the burn to an image file first - I use it since my final output is to a MiniDisc.

    Cheers

A late reply, been trying out suggestions

fireberd, the remark as you state it is exactly what I'm trying to solve:
"However, I find some media programs will read and display the song titles and others won't."

Helmut, I know the general option of CD Text is not the same as the display input of media players:
"Whilst a lot of Burning software can add CD Text to a disc that does not mean a particular CD Player/Media player can read it."

Berton, this is indeed what I'm seeing after burning a CD, with any burning software. So although it is comforting to know that this is a common sight, I would still like to know if there is a file on there, that other machines read in order to display the song name. I would like to be able to read and edit it, because I'm burning CD's.
    "Directory of E:\

    12/31/1994 06:00 PM 44 Track01.cda
    12/31/1994 06:00 PM 44 Track02.cda
    ..."

jimbo, I'm trying to understand what you are saying by following your steps. However I can't find a valid way to obtain an MiniDisk burner and deck. This makes me uncertain as to what its function is. I think you're saying that it mounts some sort of summarized list onto the burning queue, so that the next program can burn it.
"then use an old XP (MD simple burner -- MD = MiniDisc) program to copy the CD to a Minidisc using a pro studio quality MD deck"
Do the .nrg files consist of the same information displayed on portable media players and car stereo's? I'm not looking to burn an image, because an image of a list is usually not displayed on such devices, but rather individual song names (each holding information on both artist and album).

I have been trying to understand this issue for a while now, and I'm happy with each of your replies..
    Cheers

More on what I posted, this is a partial list of music files in a folder that I Ripped from a commercial CD using Windows Media Player, shows the song names and includes Album Art:

Yes, this is the kind of information that I want to hard-copy onto the discs.
Commercial CD's have a way of displaying these song names flawlessly on digital displays (like car stereo's, professional audio players, etc), is this because they read an autoplay file or something?
It seems to be in a different category than the tracklisting that just reads the file names and lists them on the burn list.

    https://www.digitalradiochoice.com/w...ry-300x199.jpg
I don't want these kinds of displays to just read Track01, even though I've entered the details in both the burning program and Win Explorer's settings, like mentioned in this thread:
Windows Media Player, Burned CD's only give me "track 1, track 2, etc.

    Thanks!

That information is saved as CD-Text an extension to the Red Book Compact Disc standard, not all optical disc drives will read that i.e. old ones from some manufacturers. Likewise some old compact discs will not have CD-Text.

Where that data is stored is described here:
    CD-Text - Wikipedia

Lets say you have an old Compact disc with no CD-Text, then the information about track titles, artists etc is on the cardboard insert in the case. That will have to be manually copied in to any CD Burning application which does CD-Text.

I know CDBurnerXP will do that as I have made Orange Book standard discs with CD-Text to CD-R and CD-RW discs.

A modern PC with an Optical Disc Drive and a Media Player and internet connection may download extra information from a database even though the disc does not have CD-Text info on it.

I use Imgburn to create a cd and get the track info.
