Revert to Win7 iTunes .msi issue

What Apple wants to upgrade to (12.2.2) should not be Important. The only important thing is that the version of the msi you have in the referenced install folder is the same as your current iTunes version (12.2.1.16) and that the uninstaller can find it. It sounds like the only thing you need to do it to tell the uninstaller where to find the msi. Hopefully you can do this and the uninstaller can remove the old version and install the new one.
If that doesn't work then I have seen posts on the net about needing to edit the registry to point the uninstaller to the correct location.
If you have never used regedit (windows registry) it needs to be used with great caution and only after making a backup of your registry in case you make a mistake. Let me know what happens when you tell the uninstaller where to fine the 12.2.1.16 msi

Thanks Joergi for the idea - I've just tried but Apple doesn't seem to allow download of previous versions. So I've sent Apple Support an email. There must be many people who have done what I've done (without backing up first!) and so have the same problem

See I'm having the same issue, except the MSI file is in the C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 12.2.1.16 location. And EVERY time I try to update or uninstall, it's giving me the error even though I have the file. I've posted screenshots. Does anyone know a workaround?

I'm on Windows 10 and stuck with this message now for 2 weeks. Apple wants me to uninstall and reinstall. Microsoft opened up a ticket. Posted on the Microsoft forums and quite a few people uninstalled and reinstalled only to get additional errors.

I can't even uninstall mine. I get that error when trying to uninstall or upgrade, as shown in my post above yours, too.

Another update: after thinking about this I think a fix might involve editing one or more regestry keys. As I recall when I had this problem one of the things I did was modify a registry key to point to the correct location for itunes6464.msi. Reverting from win 10 to win 7 left it pointing to the wrong folder. Later today when I have some time I'm going to look for some of the keys that might be the problem. I'll post the results later. One interesting thing I do remember is that when I reverted to win7 the iTunes icon on the desktop was a generic windows icon. Also the icon in the control panel remove/change programs applet was also generic. I think this is a strong indicator that something in the registry isn't right.

i also found an article on the Apple Support site about this issue its at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3704. I'm not sure if the MS Unintall tool is available for download anymore but it's worth a try.

Update: the windows installer cleanup utility noted in the apple support article has been replaced with the following Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/pr..._and_uninstall.

Thanks for your input. I tried creating the C;\Temp folder and it didn't work after placing the file in the folder.

Aslo, the FixIt utility doesn't work for Windows 10.

That's not good. I'll start looking at iTunes registry entries now and see what I can find and then get back. One question: did you upgrade to win 10 from win 7 or did you do a clean install?
