Software to search images with images on Windows?

Google Images lets users search for images online using images, by sending them from the PC to its page. They call it reverse image search, and I found this on the forum here: Reverse Image Search from desktop ? ( Productivity ) Solved - Windows 10 Forums.

This adds an option to the File Explorer's shell which allows users to make such Google Images searches from the context menu. But that's not what I have in mind.

I wonder if there is software that can make the same within Windows. I mean, search for the same image or similar ones that are inside local disks.

Long ago I used a duplicates finder that had a good preview resource and checked not only size, date, etc. but also image content (so they claimed), but it worked to find any image that could have one or more copies.

Do you know of software that can search inside Windows for one image at a time the way Google Images does online?

    TIA.

I mean a software that can work like Google Images does online.

    Like this:

    - I run the software
    - I open a folder with File Explorer and select an image
    - I drag that image onto that software (or open it from a command/button in the software)
    - It searches inside the local disk(s)
    - It shows the results with duplicated or similar images (like Google Images does online)

What led me to think of such software was my need to find a photo I made with a smartphone and uploaded to Facebook. Due to issues with said phone (crashed hard), I purchased a new one. As I need that original photo, I downloaded the one from Facebook, which has much less quality.

Since I'm not sure if I saved that photo on my desktop PC, which has a second 1 TB disk for storage purposes with tons of images and many videos, such a software would be very useful and save me a lot of time.

In short: I'd like to drag the Facebook version of the photo onto the software so it can search and find that original photo, if it's there somewhere.

    Thank you for your reply.

So what you need to find is one of those programs that allows you to drag the image onto its GUI rather than you browsing for the image.

Best look through the list... maybe someone will suggest something.

If you took the photos on an Android phone in most cases they get backed up to Google photos have you checked Google photos for it that gives you the option to search by date content etc

I haven't found it on Google Drive, I likely didn't set the backup properly at the time.

I have IrfanView, it lets me view thumbnails from folders and their subfolders. But since I have tons of images stored, it would take me hours to browse and try to find that particular image.

And I found PhotoFinder, it does basically the same as IrfanView.

But the point here is that I wonder if that way of searching Google Images does has an equivalent for Windows to find image files. I think it would be just great!

I finally found a program that does what I want: imgSeek.

It allows you to import an image or draw something to search for similar images.

But before it does the search, the user must build a database ("collection"), by adding drives or folders.

To test it, I ran imgSeek and added the D: drive, where I have these tons of stuff I mentioned before. But it didn't work, the program closed itself without warning. I tried again and again, running it as an administrator, using compatibility mode, etc. TNA.

Then I tried again by adding only one folder with a few images. This time it succeeded to create that database.

I imported the Facebook version .JPG image to imgSeek to start the search. This image is in the folder I used to create the database for the test. I also made a copy of it as .JPG and saved it as .PNG too. So I'd have three similar images in that folder.

The result was that it found all three images. But also images that are far from similar, as you can see in the screenshot.

So the problem now is how to make it create a database with those tons of images without closing itself.

I'm going to try this tutorial to find the images on that drive then move them all to a folder, and test again: How to Find All the Photos Stored on Your Windows 10 PC

Any suggestion on how to avoid the program crash? TIA.

That tutorial on finding images seems just to be list of ways to search for particular file extensions.

You do realise that pattern- matching image search is a far from trivial process? I have no clue how Google or others do it, but they have powerful machines adding to their database continually.

Yes, I'm aware of that. This wiki lists three commonly used reverse image search algorithms.

I don't know how imgSeek works, but it did the job I needed. Now I have to solve the problem I reported above, about making that search without imgSeek crashing.
