Your Phone app crashes on sign-in

Hey everyone. I loved using the My Phone app, but since it updated recently it no longer works after I select "Android" and then am prompted to sign into my Microsoft account. It just crashes and closes after I click it.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I've used WinAeroTweaker and/or Windows10Debloater, which I'm sure you'll yell at me about. :) But I tried reverting the registry changes and no luck. Using these tools hasn't caused problems with anything else other than signing into the Store and signing in to my account for the Your Phone app.

Is there a place to start you can recommend? Thanks in advance!

Hi, that's interesting- read another post about this app not working for 3 days this evening..

Can you post the version of the app- might see it in Store, downloads list:

Does a system restore point help?

What is your full Windows build- the forum prompted you for this...?

Hey! Thank you for your response.

I wasn't able to find the version number that way, but I am fairly confident I have the latest version from the Store.

I haven't tried a Restore Point - to be honest, I've always been intimidated to try Restore Points because I don't fully understand them and am paranoid I'll break my setup for my live streaming stuff through my audio drivers / OBS etc. Probably a silly reason.

And strange, I didn't get the prompt, nonetheless here's my full Windows build info:

    Edition: Windows 10 Pro
    Version: 1909
    Installed on: 5/3/2020
    OS build: 18363.778

Ok, to get version go here:

and click on Advanced Options for the app.

Then I can have the other user compare- seems it could be a bug in the latest version..

Thanks- I have the same version, build 1903 as you can see. I've never configured it though- I only use my m. phone for maps, translation, and bank authentication generally.

    It gets to here:
Your Phone app crashes on sign-in-1.png

    That link offers
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...your-phone-app
    but doubt it's relevant somehow.

If key aspects of your system haven't changed recently (i.e. since the date of the restore point of interest) then using one will have no effect. However things happen in the background (e.g. occasional driver update perhaps, certainly app updates and some windows updates).

A SR point tells you what programs if any will be affected, and reverses changes in installed updates, programs, drivers, registry.. and does not affect data. Quite recently das10 found some MS info on which file types are monitored by SR- I asked for those to be added to the SR tutorial.

However in Win 10 SR is infamous for failing to complete restoration when you need it- no change made, no harm done. Just becomes useless for a while. Great when it works, and a great complement to disk imaging which you're hopefully using periodically.

I guess what we need is confirmation from someone else with this version.

Well, I installed the app on my phone, and get as far as
    'Check your PC'

We're checking one more thing on your PC before we ask for a final permission whilst my PC Your phone says
Your Phone app crashes on sign-in-1.png

I have no idea what to do. Which is probably why I never bother with these things.

    Now my phone says
'From your phone app on your PC select send notification...' But all I see is the screenshot, my email address and an idler going round and round. Umm. Oh, it does say 'Get help'.

Several minutes later and some iteration between PC and app... now it wants to do something with bluetooth- more iteration. Too much. I have no idea what's going on. Ok, paired it, then yet more settings and iteration... this is absurd. Enough.

Anyway I can launch the app on my PC and it says
Your Phone app crashes on sign-in-1.png

I suppose you could try uninstalling it, reinstalling and running the setup process..

Microsoft should give the app to Google and let them market it. Two weeks and it would be perfect and work as it should. Of course it would collect even more data than Microsoft does but that's the price you pay for perfection these days.

Mine is all Working correctly at the moment, I can even make calls.

Has anyone tried Repair and Reset?

Well, updated to Windows 10 2004 did the trick. I don't know if it fixed the registry tweaks I made or if it fixed the Your Phone app, but I am logged into both the Store and the Your Phone app and it works as normal + no longer crashes at sign in. Thanks everyone for your help!

When it works it's a pretty neat app to have. I use it a lot as I'm on my computer a lot. I even bought a Bluetooth headset with a mic so I cn make comfortabe calls with it. Works pretty well.
