    VLC Hell

    Hey All :)

Every time I go to download VLC Media Player, the download process stops at 0 then a small window at the bottom left of the screen pops up telling me the download may harm your PC and gives me a choice to keep or discard. But no matter which one I choose, the page from VLC becomes unresponsive and my computer functions cease and I have to manually shut it down and turn it on again for my PC function properly again.

I am using the official site to download it. I scanned with ADW Cleaner, Bitdefender + (Paid Version) and MBAM Premium (Paid Version). None detect anything. I always thought the official site was the safest. Am I doing something wrong?

I just DL'd it from here, with the HUGE orange button... no problems.

Official download of VLC media player, the best Open Source player - VideoLAN

Also, it scans clean locally (with BDIS 2020 paid) and at Virustotal.

/e Are you sure that BD, ADWC, and MBAM aren't conflicting with each other? The only other difference I see is that I use the latest Firefox.

All I know is old school things like... only run one scanner with a real time component, at one time. Like I know, it's now possible to run BD and MBAM, but only if MBAM has any real time scanner inactive.

/e Maybe Canada has shut the border to downloads from the US... also.
    (j/k)

/e2 The only other thing I can think of, is that of BD's 16 modules, I only run three. The AV, firewall, and threat defense. Everything else is shut off.

See my edit 2 above. And don't forget to compliment Trudeau on his stylish... socks.
If that doesn't make any sense, just Google: Trudeau + socks.

/e Might also be some setting in Chrome. I don't use Chrome so I can't help with that. I do know, that occasionally, Firefox blocks some sites, and FF has a setting to disable that in Options.

In FF, it's under Options > Privacy and Security...

When you go to download directly from the Videolan website, it isn't actually a direct download. It appears that there is a slight delay whilst your location is checked then the download starts from the nearest mirror site. It could be that the closest mirror is down.

Try these direct download links from Videolan itself:

    x64 version: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.11/...0.11-win64.exe

    x32 version: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.11/...0.11-win32.exe

I've just checked and both are working.

    Hope this helps...

There's no timeline thumbnails with that unless i'm mistaken.

You do get them with this:
