Good. That worked. No longer listed in Settings/apps and features.

    I grabbed the portable version.

Had not used Revo in 6 or 8 years.

Resisted the OVERWHELMING urge to let Revo delete remaining registry entries as I don't want to encourage that habit. So far at least. I may succumb tomorrow.
FYI: Revo makes a copy of deleted reg entries, for backup.

Have you tried this tutorial: How to Enable or Disable Cortana in Windows 10

It should work since you have Win 10 Pro.

In 2004, it's an app and will be listed in Revo. That's how I uninstalled it.

    I don't want to uninstall it. . . yet.

But I see that it is listed in CCleaner. . .

I haven't a clue if that method works, or not ?

    NB:
I haven't read Shawn's tutorial yet either, but "The Beast" . . seems to stay disabled on my machine. .

I haven't tried the CCleaner method for a long time, but my remembrance is it does not do as deep a cleaning as Revo. I think it just does the same as right-clicking the App entry in Settings and clicking Uninstall (if not greyed) out. Revo gets the reg entries (with a backup) and the file entries.

Thanks again everyone for your input. Tried all but Winaero Tweaker which I about to do now. Failing that, I will have to use Task Manager to disable it each time I fire up Windows 10

If it's that desperate, why not schedule a task run on logon to do that and let Windows do it for you?

This subject comes up often, and I don't know why.

I first got Windows 10 about four years ago. Win 10 was new to me.

I saw this Cortana thing. Obvious spyware. So I followed some online instructions to disable it. It was gone. I haven't seen it since.

So why has it become a recurring problem for so many people?

As I said, no need to take special action to disable it on a normally working system, unless you run into an MS-created bug related to an update that causes high CPU-usage. Merely stop it responding to 'Hey Cortana' in Settings. Zero resource usage so it can't be doing anything - even 'spying'.

(And if you're afraid of spying, never, ever, use the internet. Keep your PC's 'air gapped').

And used only in an EMI protected room, NO Wi-Fi. Ever. And disable the Bluetooth adapter and remove all USB connect dongles for radio controlled devices.
