    Replacement for photo viewer

    Win ver 19041.388

Just do not like this "new" photo viewer, it is just cumbersome to operate, lot of extra steps etc. I like the older Win photo viewer, however since JPG files are saved as "unhandled Extension handler finder", I need something else. Appreciate any suggestions that is not overly optioned, just a simple viewer. Tx

I believe there's an article in the Tutorial section of this Forum about how to restore it, search should find it.

If you mean the Photos app, then no, I don't like it much either. But the old Windows Photo Viewer that's been around since Windows 7 is still available in Windows 10. Here they are side by side.

Restore Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10

Apparently if you use option 1 here it can cause the problem so try option 2

That "unhandled Extension handler finder" doesn't look right. How did you restore Photo Viewer? There are many methods out ther on the web and not all of then are as complete as Brink's tutorial. I would recommend running his Option Two again, that's the one I used.

Edit: as suggested by Callender while I was typing this

I've found over the years of Windows [since '92 with Version 3.1] that by default not showing the file extension as part of the file name [the part with .xxx added] makes it more difficult in determining the format and the associated program to that format. I would have preferred cellholder.jpg or cellholder.png when saving the file. There's any number of programs that can handle one or more of the possible extensions. But then I learned computing beginning with MS-DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1 in '92, retired in '94 and have lived through a lot of change of Windows.

I just use the Photos app for a quick view, otherwise I use Adobe Lightroom to view and edit photos.
