    Hi there
what's that XNViewmp thing doing -- it may be caching multi-media data which could be holding your device.
You try stopping that application and then trying again.

If the file is really locked by some process then it's safer just to shutdown and re-boot. Unless you are on a server a typical Windows machine these days onlt takes seconds to re-boot so why bother for finding one of these applications that aprobably won't be needed after the next update.

Make sure things like Indexing are not enabled on the external device too and / or things like bitlocker / encryption / compression processes.

    Cheers

Change it to Quick removal and then you can avoid the problem.

I already know the possibility of quick removal without procedure but the disk is heavily used (emule and backup), so I preferred to use the performance mode that is about a 10-20% faster.

If there is no free software to remedy the problem (remember that usbsafelyremove manages to unlock the device but is paid) I will opt for this solution.

But it's not my favorite solution.

Hello, that screenshot with xnviewmp that you saw is not mine.

If there is no application that securely frees the device, I will opt to apply the policy for quick removal as shutdown and restart as I said earlier is very slow 6-9 min on my machine and is inconvenient.

The indexed is disabled on external disk

I opened a thread here on purpose that is slow. My laptop is slow after power on.

thank you for the link you found.

I tried to change the criteria and the letter of unity, but the problem persists. For a moment it seemed that it had worked but after several other tests I saw that it was a rare case.

You should do a try putting the disc "offline" but the script that is in the link must be corrected, as it does not appear the possibility to put it offline from context menu or disk management because it is seen as a hard drive and not removable.

However, we do not understand the various procedures to try.

    I need your help.

Attempting to do that is a little like reinventing the wheel for the sake of $20 for USB Safely Remove.

    There are some others..
5 Free Tools To Eject USB Removable Devices • Raymond.CC

    and consider
Microsoft confirms you really, really don’t need to ‘safely remove’ USB flash drives anymore - The Verge
    - which you may or may not wish to take with a pinch of salt.

I have also found a remaining giveaway for USB Safely Remove - it is periodically available as such - I got one years ago.

    Zentimo is even more expensive.

sorry, but I did not understand what you wrote, apart from the link to the removal utilities.

Which is the best to install?

I will type a lot more for you.
Attempting to do that is a little like reinventing the wheel for the sake of $20 for USB Safely Remove.
Attempting to implement the ideas from the link I posted using e.g. scripts and trying to do as well as a long proven program is going to take a long time with an uncertain outcome. It would be better to spend $20 and buy the program.

As to the links I posted I leave them to speak for themselves. I have no opinion on the programs suggested.
    - which you may or may not wish to take with a pinch of salt.
= believe it or not as you wish; try it and see. Well-known English idiom (Google can help).

I have also found a remaining giveaway for USB Safely Remove - it is periodically available as such - I got one years ago.
You don't want to spend money; you want a free solution. It is quite common practice to give away programs for a limited time, often with lifetime non-upgradable licenses e.g. sharewareonsale.com, giveawayof theday.com. I run a giveaway of USB Safely remove from years ago.

Today I did a search and found a remaining giveaway. I won't post the link, merely put the thought into your mind that if you searched e.g. for
    USB Safely Remove giveaway
    you might find something.

    Zentimo is even more expensive.
Zentimo is something like USB Safely Remove.

    Phew.

    now I get it.

I tried to search for "give away" but I couldn't find daily offers.

However, as I read from the previous link I noticed that my external disc is mistakenly seen as an internal disk.

    How can I solve this?

hi, I have been dealing with another thread.

I tried to search for "external disk showing as internal" in the forum but found nothing about this topic.

Can you help me do the research?
