best software free for safetely remove usb external disk

what's that XNViewmp thing doing -- it may be caching multi-media data which could be holding your device.
You try stopping that application and then trying again.

If the file is really locked by some process then it's safer just to shutdown and re-boot. Unless you are on a server a typical Windows machine these days onlt takes seconds to re-boot so why bother for finding one of these applications that aprobably won't be needed after the next update.

Make sure things like Indexing are not enabled on the external device too and / or things like bitlocker / encryption / compression processes.

I already know the possibility of quick removal without procedure but the disk is heavily used (emule and backup), so I preferred to use the performance mode that is about a 10-20% faster.

If there is no free software to remedy the problem (remember that usbsafelyremove manages to unlock the device but is paid) I will opt for this solution.

But it's not my favorite solution.

Hello, that screenshot with xnviewmp that you saw is not mine.

If there is no application that securely frees the device, I will opt to apply the policy for quick removal as shutdown and restart as I said earlier is very slow 6-9 min on my machine and is inconvenient.

The indexed is disabled on external disk

I opened a thread here on purpose that is slow. My laptop is slow after power on.

I tried to change the criteria and the letter of unity, but the problem persists. For a moment it seemed that it had worked but after several other tests I saw that it was a rare case.

You should do a try putting the disc "offline" but the script that is in the link must be corrected, as it does not appear the possibility to put it offline from context menu or disk management because it is seen as a hard drive and not removable.
