The Settings has Portrait checked in SnipIt (Win10-Home).
Why does the first screen always come up with the Landscape box checked off which is the opposite of the Settings check off and I always have to change it to Portrait?
I unfortunately don't have any answer as to why SnipIt is presenting difficulties, but have you considered trying another similar tool such as Windows built-in Snip & Sketch or any of the many similar free utilities available?

Sorry, I don't know why I said Snipit.
I meant the built in Windows 10 Snipping Tool or whatever it's called.

Do you know which one you are using (Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch)?
Also, what version of Windows 10 are you running? I'm currently on version 2004 and I don't see an option for portrait or landscape in either the Snipping Tool or in Snip & Sketch. Maybe you could point me to where you see that option.
I see options to capture freehand, full screen, rectangular, or freehand, but I'm simply not seeing a landscape of portrait mode selector anywhere.
It's Snip & Stretch although they also refer to it as Snipping Tool. I'm using a new Win10 Home.
I may not be using it right. After I highlight with the rectangle and I get the popup showing it went to the clipboard, I then click on the notification to get rid of it.
Then I do a Cntl+P and I get a window on the left that say Print Snip with all the usual choices.
I always check the Settings for Portrait but the next time it comes up with Landscape.
It also has a check box that says "Allow app to change settings" which I say No but that doesn't save either.
Ah, now I understand! You are not talking about an option in the tool, you are talking about printer options.
First, Snip & Sketch and the Snipping Tool are not the same tool. They are 2 distinctly different apps.
The first screenshot below shows the Snipping Tool and the second shows Snip & Sketch.
Regardless, the portrait vs. landscape mode you describe has absolutely nothing to do with either tool. CTRL + P is the print dialog. If you want the default to be changed to Portrait mode, then you need to go into Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Select your printer, change the default to Portrait mode.
NOTE: With some drivers, the manner in which you access the exact setting for portrait vs landscape mode may vary, but you should find it somewhere in the printer settings.
Again, it has nothing to do with the tool, but rather with the printer driver configuration.
