    Fonts not opening correctly

I have a few fonts on a Flash Drive that usually open just fine w/Windows Font Viewer. But somehow, the association has changed to IranfanView 64-bit & I cannot change it back.

1st, I left-clicked any font & chose 'Open with...'. I then looked for & clicked on the Font Viewer application (C:\Windows\System32\fontview.exe). But I then get the attached error message.

I also tried Windows>Settings>Apps>Default Apps>Choose default apps by file type. When I scroll down to .ttf, it shows IrfanView 64-bit as the association. But when I click on IrfanView 64-bit, I see 2 choices: IrfanView 64-bit & Look for an app in the Microsoft Store (which, when chosen, shows "No results found for this filtering").

How can I change this association from IrfanView 64-bit back to Windows Font Viewer?
By the way, ALL of the fonts in my C:\Windows\Fonts folder open just fine in Windows Font Viewer.

I slowly scrolled down the list & the default for .fon, .otf & .ttc are all set to Windows Font Viewer.
Only .ttf is set to IrfanView 64-bit & I cannot change it.

    Could Command Prompt/Powershell help me?

After much trouble trying to get IrfanView to 'let go' of it's file associations, I decided to just uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller. After the uninstall & reboot, ALL of my font files are now opening normally - with the Windows Font Viewer.

But then, ALL my picture files were not opening at all. I was getting this error: "Invalid value for registry."
Looking at Settings>Apps>Default Apps in Windows 10, the Photo Viewer is listed as using TWINUI & every time I try to change it, the window closes w/o any change being done. Using Control Panel is no help, it just opens the Windows 10 Settings page!

So I reinstalled IrfanView, making doubly sure to select ONLY the few photo files I want IrfanView to open. But then my font file associations get overwritten AGAIN! There has to be something in the registry that can help me. I've searched, but don't know what I need to change.

    Irfanview is buggy. Suggest:

Don't set it as default for any file types. Uninstall it, reboot then choose something else as default image viewer.

If you want to use Irfanview reinstall without associating any file types and use "Open With" from the right click context menu or browse images in Irfanviw using "file > open"

Thanks for the information & link.
I've been using IrfanView for years & this may be the 1st problem I've run into.
I really like using IrfanView, so I'm going to re-install but not check off any associations to see if that works for me.

BTW, what other viewer(s) can open so many file types, have lots of customization, are so easy to use & are free?

Well personally I do keep Irfanview but without asscociating any files.

    My default viewer is QuickViewer.

    Replacement for photo viewer

As for something a little more advanced I use portable xnview mp.

    XnView MP | XnView.com

You will never get anyone to agree what's best. There a too many to choose from.
