WMP playing audio but no video in WMV files

    Hello all,

Tried searching but couldn't find similar posts.

WMP in Windows 10 will play audio but no video for all WMV files. It just started 1-2 weeks ago. I actually did a clean install and downloaded some codec packages to no avail.

Anyone have similar issue or know a fix?

    It's Version 2004.

    Thank you.

I would just use Media Player Classic, or VLC Media Player.

I use VLC Media Player for all video files and WMP for audio files. Lot simpler that way.

1 This thread says to download Divx
I cant see the video [Solved] - CCM
    Divx

2 You can see a list of codecs [and some other WMP parameters] using
WMP, Help, ABout, Tech support info
    - The results open in your browser and can be saved
    - Mine appears to be telling me that the relevant codec is in C:\Windows\System32\mvdecod.dll [with backup copies in a few other places].

3 There is a WMP troubleshooter at Settings, Update, Troubleshoot, Video playback [right near the bottom of the list].

4 There is some background info at
File types supported by WMP - MSSupport
    codecs FAQ - Windows Help

I do use have VLC. The main reason why I'm asking is I like to preview the video in windows explorer before opening it up. Without the WMV able to play in WMP it won't preview.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Thanks for this. I'm not seeing WMV video codecs. But when I go to the windows support site it says they are downloaded.
