How to stop LiveNewsNow.com from "updating"

First, apologies if this is the wrong forum for this kind of question.

About once a day I see there is an notification "This site has been updated in the background."

I have no idea why I get this message or if it has anything to do with my computer.

I've emailed them 3 times but no response.

    I'm using Windows 10 version 1903

Where exactly are you seeing this? In the web browser? It could be that the issue is with an extension that the website installed?

As it turns out, it was a Google extension. How it got there, I have no idea, but it's gone now.

Some websites actually do this using scripts. You can block scripts on websites using extensions like uMatrix and NoScript. If you're not happy with a website refreshing the page by itself you simply add a temporary rule. It will likely be XHR or a script you want to block. These are elements of a web page that can continue to run even after the website has loaded. For example this board has a feature which refreshes the quick reply box after it has performed an auto-save. Without these features the board software wouldn't be able to keep up-to-date with the most recent text inputted into the quick reply box. This is in many ways another form of refreshing only it does not occur in real-time and only when you choose to apply the recent changes. This can also work in similiar ways when a page is refreshed only it's done in a different way.

A good example of this happening is with some news sites. They do this for a number of reasons. One is to maintain persistence over the session, this ensures the browser continues to remain connected to the website and content can be refreshed and so you're up-to-date. And also for data collection. Upon refreshing new real time data about the client (yourself) is available to the website which can be used in a variety of different ways.
